NGD - Gretsch G2627T in new Shoreline Gold!

Happy New Gretsch Day to me!
A brand spanking new G2627T CB in new Shoreline Gold.
Went to GC today to buy strings and when I was there an employee was pulling this out of the box to display. It had just arrived! I asked if I could take it for a spin. He stated it was a brand new special model/color exclusive to Guitar Centers. NO ONE had even touched it yet! After playing it for about 20 minutes, there was NO way I could leave it there. I've only found two flaws on this instrument so far. A little overspray inside one of the 'cat-eye' f-holes and one of the knobs on a volume pot was loose on the shaft. Other than that, nothing! The nut appears to be cut correctly and there's not even any sharp edges on the frets! This thing is fantastic. The setup out of the box pretty much works for me, although it may need some tweaking just a little. Sounds incredible through my '65 PRRI! The stock Broadtron pups aren't bad at all with some dirt, but they leave just a little to be desired to my tastes when playing clean; but otherwise I'm in love. Pictures do it no justice. I think this is going to be a very versatile guitar. LOTS of cool tones in here. This thing's a beast and very well made too as far as I can tell.

Apparently it’s such a brand new color that I have found absolutely ZERO references or pics of this particular one anywhere on the interwebs. Nothing on Gretsch’s site either.

I like Gretsch guitars, regardless of the color. That's the only brand that I can say that about.

First of all, congrats! Streamliners are awesome Gretsch guitars.

Second, that color looks like a couple of things, but not Shoreline. A new line up of Player Edition Prolines were announced this week, including a PE Duo Jet with Dynas. I hate PEs but this one looks awesome, in Shahara Metallic.

Third, both these guitars remind me of vintage Gretsch Jaguar Tan, which I really love. Especially the vintage 50 Streamliner Electromatics ...

have a question about the two selector switches for the three pickups - how is it wired? What do you get at each position?

I get you, colors are colors. I’m only saying from a Gretsch perspective. A dude that is used to Fender guitars, well gold comes in three kinds. But to a Gretsch guy, Jaguar Tan is what it’s called, and it’s a rare treat. Do they look alike? Sure do, and the vintage stuff is faded and the clear has yellowed so there’s that. I like whatever color it is, including Sahara Metallic, exactly because Jaguar Tan looks so good on the 6190 above.

I have a few Vintage Select MIJ Gretsch, and they are the closest it comes to an “vintage reissue” Gretsch. I also have a few vintage Gretsch guitars, and there is something about them that is ‘non-ergonomic’ or just odd-ball. That’s the feature, not the defect to me. PEs are Gretsch for Gibson players, IMHO. Great MIJ quality but decidedly revised un-Gretsch features.

The Duo Jet above has a low set neck, for a slimmer feel. For me that’s silly, I don’t need a slimmer feel (i.e. Les Paul clone). This also explains the Bigsby B7, which kills the best part of a Bigsby. The tension bar works against the smooth response of a B3/B6s/etc. On top of that they use a stud bridge, killings the lively thin top, which makes a Dyna Jet special and unique. Not sure about those Dynasonics either, they have to be special, with a very shallow cover/casing. Adjusting these pickups is a labor of love, and being Dynas, if they are too close they have a tendency to dampen the string vibrations.

I’ll tell you as soon as I can figure it out myself. Not quite there yet.
It’s definitely different than anything I’ve owned before. But I love it. Lots of cool tones are in it. Very versatile!

That is a real beauty @scrimmer. Enjoy. I am loving the color choices Gretsch has as of late. Somebody posted a Fairlane Blue the other day of a different model that was crazy good, and yours is just as nice. And I really appreciate Gretsch's website, it is well built and so many pretty pics of their gear, I spent an hour on it last night, just browsing! Congrats!
