Squier Classic Vibe vs American Standard

I recorded a back-to-back comparison video of two of my favorite teles!
The output of the American Standard is quite a bit hotter than the Squier, but otherwise the tone of the CVC is not too shabby!

Makes sense. The output of the set in the MIA Standard is greater than stock Alnico Vs in the Squier. The Squier pickups are kind of generic but still sound quite good. Nice demo too.

I owned a Squier CVC for a while and it was a really nice guitar overall but I disliked the pickups...they were too weak for my tastes.My other Teles are USA 52 and Mexican 50s reissues and those have a meatier output which I prefer.I ended up putting Tex Mex Tele pickups in the Squier and it really came alive.

I had a CV Squier and it had a pretty great sound. It lacked a little bit of the zing and balls of my other Teles, but it was a cool guitar.

Yes-I totally agree, & actually sold my Fender Tele. I find the Squier to actually sound better.

Ive had the whiteish Cv tele, the bsb Cv tele, the Cvc tele all three which Ive sold. My Am. Stnd. Tele will never leave my side unless its to get a '52 ri.

Tone, weight, neck shape are all deciding factors and my Am. Std. meets these factors perfectly.

The Am. Std. does sound considerably better. More musical in every test, setting, etc. Much richer notes, more resonant chords. A lot of space and color. It's also a really handsome guitar.

But the Squire sure is a great bargain, and can be upgraded pretty affordably.

With the Am. Std. having such responsive PUP's, ranging from subtle to forceful, I'd swap crazy-hot PUP's and meaty strings into the Squier, and make it a fierce sleeper. Like that time that over-motored AMC Hornet almost drove me into the ditch. There's a lot to be said for a Plain Jane with a brass voice.

Then again, I'm on cold meds.

The Squier surely doesn´t sound shabby, though I prefer the American Standard (playing two of them). Good work with that comparison. Wanted just to point out that the bridge on the Standard is not the stock one; looks like that ones on the Deluxes.

If you do quick jumps between the bridge pups, the output is pretty similar. The CV and CVC bridge pup is really good. The major difference I hear is on the neck pup, which was my experience. It's weak and lacks dimension. I Esquire'd my Classic Vibe.

Yes, they were definitely recorded exactly the same. It is possible that because the American Standard has a higher output you are hearing more of the spatial effects (reverb and delay).

Hahaha! Thanks. Some hot pickups is the CVC might be just the thing. I really am in love with that guitar. The thin neck is not my favourite though.

I find the CVC neck pu ( not the same as the CV ) one of the better ones I have tried. Bridge pu , its the other way around for me , I prefer the CV model by far. Two of my guitars are set up like this.

I've got nocaster pups in mine and it sounds great

I have a white CV which is now my main guitar and that has the original pup in the bridge and twisted tele in the neck

I never had any problems with the pups on my cv50. I liked their sound from the get. The electronics now, they gave out after a few months. I replaced them with the guts from my 85MIJ and its sounded great ever since.

I agree. The neck pickup just sounds flat to me. I prefer the sound of the bridge pickup on the CVC to the Am Std. But prefer the middle and neck on the Am Std. BTW, I own a CVC and did change out the pickups. Its a killer guitar for the money but the thinnish neck is another ding for me on these CV guitars.

There is a clear difference and I like the US std better. A more fuller sound. But then again, there is a difference in output for which you don't compensate by adding a bit more gain to the amp.

So it is hard to say how much of the difference in sound is due to the amp being pushed slightly harder by the us guitar and thus delivering a fuller sound. Especially in the first part, where you play a gained sound, the CV could use a bit more drive.

But both guitars are adequate. It's all good

May I ask, what amp did you use? Love the way it projects in your recordings… yeah, I picked-out the reverb and delay right away in the melodic comparison. I like wet / gritty stuff like that.

I like that kind of sound, too. Whatever instrument, there is almost always a good attribute to grab and run with.

I actually recorded the guitars using Scuffham s-gear. It is a new program to me, but I really like it so far.
