I'm building few Jaguar necks w/ 24" scale. I have StewMac's mitre box and a couple of other templates, but it doesn't look like they make one w/ a 24" scale.

Suggestions? I love these templates. They work great w/ the mitre box. Not sure why they wouldn't do a 24".

If you use the stewmac 25.5 template and consider the first fret as the nut it will get you close. According to the stewmac fret calculator the first fret is 1.431 inches from the nut - close enough? I used the ekips program and made myself a template to use with the stewmac jig out of Masonite with notches hardened with CA - good enough for a few fretboards I guess. All the best with it.

This is essentially what Fender did, meaning the 25.5 template will work. I've built several 24"s using this method, they play and sound fine ;)

You guys and your DIY attitudes! I should have known better to post this question here in the HD. Where's the "I'm lazy and just want to order a tool then wait for it to arrive in the mail" forum?

So, instead of working on some necks and truss rod routing today:

Had a big piece of garolite for pickguard makin'. Cut it to size with the one StewMac template I have. I just love how it fits perfectly in the mitre box, so I want something that will work similarly.

Use the StewMac calculator and the website recommended above to print out a paper template. Lines are good..

I started to file in the slots for the pin by hand, then I remembered I have a band saw.

Touch 'em up with sandpaper,

and, voila!

Thanks for all the suggestions kids. Wish it were stainless steel like the SM one, but it'll pass.

ooh, look. Cut my finger. Didn't even see that.
