I'm close to pulling the trigger on a Victoria 5E3, just wondering which speaker to get. One I'm looking at has the Jensen and the other is the new version with the Eminence legend. After talking to Mark Baier, I thought I'd want the Eminence, for the added headroom and volume factor, but after trying one out--I think I find the Jensen more chimey and less midrangey. What have you with more experience with this amp been using, and why? Thanks!

I use a Weber 12A125 with my Clark Beaufort Special 5E3. It's got really warm break-up and nice jangly highs. I like it because it does the old tweed overdrive thing well but at the same time doesn't let the mids get out of control. There's no mud or mush, and it sounds great with a Tele.

There is/was an Emi Legend 122 in the classifieds that would pair perfectly with a 5E3. No affiliation, just sayin'.

I have the Jensen P12Q in mine and wouldn't change it for the world.
Especially after the speaker broke in it opened up and sings across the frequency range.

Talk aboiut a 3 dimensional swirl filling the room.
If I admitted it it's my favorite amp ever.

I know Mark is putting the Eminence in there now but has anything else changed?
I ask as I see it advertised as the last of the old version.

I can't see anything except the speaker changing.

I should have asked Mak when I spoke with him at the Dallas Show a few weeks ago.

The Eminence Black Mountain sounds great in my gkoelling amp.

Thanks for the reply to the PM I sent on this speaker!

I was thinking about it for my Calrk Veaufort.
I have a P15N Jensen in it now that sounds very good but I want to shift it's charactor somewhat more to my taste (the Victoria spoiled me!).

I had a line on an outstanding price on a new one at the time that was a little over half price, which is a steal in veiw of the fact they went up so high in price.

For the 20112 I could not imagine anything working better in there than the Jensen so I'll never touch that one.
BTW, the Victoria has an amazingly resonant cabinet that is just so right.
Better than any other I have ever had.

Bluesjuke - please, stop singing the praises of your 20112. I can't afford another amp and you're making me want a Victoria!!

It sounds as if it's a tweed Pro cab with a cut out for a 5E3 chassis. I've been thinking about a tweed Princeton in a 1x12 5E3 cab. I found a Weber 12A150 on TGP a while back for $35 shipped/PayPal'd. I had no use for it but who could pass on that??? So...now I need to give it a home.

Oops! I'm sorry, meant to type P12N.
It is a Super size cab.

The P15N is in my Pro.
In that I have a '60 Reconed Jensen.

Good deal on the Weber!

I just received a new 20112 direct from Victoria. The stock speaker--an Eminence Legend 1258 OEM spec'ed by Mark for more midrange--sounds great...to my ears. I have the same speaker in my 5112. Lots of bite, great midrange, but also very smooth as you crank things up. As was said above, and as he told me himself, Mark is using these for the increased headroom, increased volume, and firmer bottom end vs the Jensen P12Q RI. So here's a vote for the Eminence.

I know its an old thread but anyone else have any experience with different speaker choice? I want to try an Alnico but I hear it has an even flubbier bass tone, then a ceramic speaker.

I found one of the Eminence 1258 from a Victoria amp on ebay, I have it in my 5e3 clone, where it's a great speaker. I actually like an old organ-pull alnico P12R style better. That one sounds killer, great breakup, but not enough oomph for gig use with a loud drummer, so the Eminence stays in.

I heard quite a number of Alnico speakers with 5E3s:

- Celestion Blue Alnico
- Fane AXA 12
- Jensen P12 RI
- Jensen Blackbird
- Tone Tubby Red Alnico
- Weber 12A125A
- Weber Signature Alnico 12S

I am looking for 'classic' Alnico sound with enough body / oomph for use in a band. Most of the speakers I have tried sound fine at home but lack the balls and low end when playing with other instruments.

When I bought the Mission Amps 5E3 secondhand it came with the Tone Tubby Red Alnico and it is still in there. The only downside for me is the loudness. My band is not particularly loud so I can't turn the amp up as much as I would want to.

Going from a P12Q to the Eminence Red Fang; is equivalent to turning your 20112 into a 100W RMS amp.

It is that drastic. Makes amp fit to stand with any drummer

Red Fang sounds nice, too.
