I really like the look of Warmoth's solid Rosewood neck. Does anyone have experience with these necks? leave it unfinished? Ok to gloss the back of neck & headstock? I'm Probably going to match it to a cherryburst flamed maple top on swamp ash body. Thanks in advance.

I've thought about these, and I don't think I'd finish it, except maybe the headstock face, simply so a glossy decal would not look out of place.

I have one and it is perfect unfinished. In fact I think it would be a mistake to finish it (Warmoth won't finish an all rosewood neck - I'm sure they have good reason).

i have an all bolivian rosewood neck (pau ferro) it's unfinished and for a good reason the smooth wood feels amazing, natural, and it's probably the fastest neck i've ever played

I've got some experience with them.

Rosewood is loaded in oils; it does not really need a finish, nor will it readily ACCEPT a finish. The finish will be repelled by the oils in the wood:

Wonderful feeling neck. Warmoth Vintage Modern. Still waiting for the sound of the neck to mature. I've reduced it from a 1 inch Fatback down halfway or so to a Boatneck and the brightness is a little warmer now.

But there's an issue you should know about. East Indian Rosewood often smells like little Marishka peed on it:

Before she passed away last year, I put the question to her. She swears she never peed on my rosewood neck. I trust her, but this neck still makes your hands smell stinky when you play a long time on it.

...it is most heartening to see fellas with the love for da solid rosewood guitar necks

...and yes...imo there is no requirement for any extraneous finish as genuine dalbergia rosewood is very stable once dry due to high oil content

...imo the HIGHER the oil content the more stable it actually is and with super strength and stiffness to boot ...it is THE premier guitar neck imo

...now, just cos u leave it unfinished does NOT mean you can't achieve a blingy shine to it

...just sand the wood to highest grit you have on hand and move to buffing machine and buff her up as if there is a finish on it

cocobolo neck...unfinished but sanded and buffed up

...shiny yet sensually smooth ......

I've got two Warmoth RSW neck, one on a Strat and one on a Tele, and both are some of the best necks I've played on. As they come from Warmoth they are perfect, but I rubbed each with a coach or two of natural Danish oil, just to darken it up a little bit more. The more the neck has been played they better it feels. You some times can also smell the rosewood when you play as your hand rubs on the neck which is nice. Mine don't smell like small mammal pee either.

I recently finished a rosewood neck with truoil (except for the fretboard, which I just used a little bit of lemon oil) and it came out great. I'd post a picture, but I don't have a camera

Crikey, that's purdy!

Is the body solid or have a different core? What does it weigh?

Wow. Wow.

Body is chambered so it is all rosewood but hollow. Not sure what it weighs but is not particularly heavy but also not a lightweight either. I'm gonna guess maybe somewhere around 7 1/2 - 8 lbs...?

Hi,

I finished this headstock like this:

1st coat with shellac (sticks on almost anything) as a sealer.
Put on Decal
Finish with Nitro...

Sorry, no pics of the back, but I finished it with some coats of true oil after a shellac sealer coat.

Cheers,

Ole

Have a warmouth on order. Planning on putting it on a walnut bodied esquire.

I like the idea of just using finer and finer grits of sandpaper, then buffing it out.
