It seemed like stuff that was left off of III/IV. Dregs of the dregs.

He won't reach his potential until he pulls his head out of his butt and sees himself in a mirror.

His best music is very, very good.

Ouch.

The production quality is not so good on most of these tracks.

I saw him play a live show back around 2007 and he was good!

Yeah, he did a concert at the Roundhouse in 2014 where he played The Door. The whole concert is up on youtube and the sound quality is very good after the first song, where the vocals were too far down in the mix. When I first listened to the version of The Door on this "new" album, I was disappointed. But most of the songs on this release make me happy, regardless of recording quality.

I'll check this out. I really, really liked his concert with The Cardinals.

I'm not real familiar with all of Ryan's work, or the controversies. Your opinion may vary, but for me any hit piece in the NYT is questionable. I like a lot of his music. My take is that he's got a self-sabotaging streak. That's something I relate to. He's been crucified more than enough.

I thought about him a good bit while reading the thread about separating the art from the artist. I have no doubt that he’s treated some people very badly and that he is his own worst enemy in some respects. But his music is, to me, incredible.

I feel like he's suffering from the same syndrome as Neil Young. He puts out too much music. Most of it is good or decent (some of it crap) but it's just too much to wade through to find the pearls.

I'm sure he has 10 more records in the can waiting to be released.

He has an incredible capacity for songwriting, but choosing the best 12 songs out of 50 would make for fewer and better albums.

He's probably the artist I think about the most in the artist vs. art regard. The reports of some of his worst behavior really put me off for a while, due in part to reminding me too much of some folks that I've known personally. Still, that never changed my opinion that disc 2 of 'Cold Roses' is an absolute masterpiece.
