This may seem like a strange question... but what kind of glue or adhesive can be used on guitar finish? Say, for example, I want to attach something to my guitar, what could I use that won't just dissolve the finish?

Its a PRS SE One. I have a bottle opener on it, but that was easy, as it came with screws. I have a small metal emblem (not at all heavy) that would I wanted to attach to the guitar. I figured some type of glue would work, but I couldn't figure out what type of finish is on the guitar so I have no idea what would work. I also can't believe I left that out of my original post! Sorry about that one.

I know... seems crazy. I'm only worried about harming the finish around what I would be attaching. I may have drilled holes into the guitar to attach the bottle opener, but it looks clean, if you know what I mean. I didn't dent up and ruin the area around the bottle opener. If I use glue, I don't want something that would maybe melt or discolor the finish around what I'd be attaching. I don't mind if I stick things to my guitar (obviously...), I just don't want it to look poorly done.

If you fix something to the body, it will leave its mark, Eventually sunlight will discolour the finish leaving a silhouette where any masking is present. Whip the pickguard off and have a look-see. You can do this safely on a PRS, there’s no pixie dust to get lost.

I know it'll discolor the area directly underneath, thats not my concern though. You know how using super glue on the wrong material can cause it to start melting and dissolving what you put it on? That's what I want to avoid.

You might try an Automotive Supply like Pep Boys, or even a Car Dealership Parts Dept...and ask if they have a 3M Tape or something similar, like they use to attach emblems and logos....might also try a Harley Davidson Shop ?

i have always used double-sided tape available almost anywhere for mounting stuff like that.....have used it to mount Roland GK2a synth pickups on virtually all of my synth equipped teles and some have been on their respective teles for years...i even used the double tape to mount some pickups in a Gibson Marauder for a buddy years ago, they're still hangin' in that guitar but sadly he's gone...

stuff does NO damage that i've ever seen.....

I just used a water-based latex adhesive to attach the side tape on a nitro painted Dano project. The excess just rolled off with my finger and didn't mess up the paint. I'm not sure where you can get that in small quantities though. You can try googling.
