Used to be baritone but it seems to have drifted lower over the years, with the range shrinking somewhat.
Thanks, Marc - which app, please?I don’t really sing much these days, and despite singing in a few bands when I was a student, I hate the sounds of my singing voice.
I just just did a test on an app and apparently I’m a bass.
Thanks, Marc - which app, please?
Brilliant - thanks for that. I'll give that a go.The one I used was called Sing Whiz on iOS, no idea how accurate it is! Gave results in this format:

Couldn't access that app but used another one, that gave me E2 to E3. So only one octave, and solidly bass. The one I used was called Sing Whiz on iOS, no idea how accurate it is! Gave results in this format:

Cookie monster? I'm not THAT bad!!Yeah @KeithDavies 100 maybe you're playing the 6th string on the 3rd fret and singing it an octave up. That low G is many people's lowest note and you're describing it as your highest note. That's down in "cookie monster" territory. Or maybe your calling the highest string or the 1st string the "low E" instead of the high E which is the standard way guitarists refer to it. The lowest or 6th string is closest to your head, the highest or 1st string is closest to your feet.
There's plenty good voices out there in the low baritone and bass vocal range. Most of them stay in 12-17 semitone range which is about normal for anyone's sweet spot (prima voce).Couldn't access that app but used another one, that gave me E2 to E3. So only one octave, and solidly bass.
I'm not sure what one does with a bass voice, but I guess I'll start learning!
I have a hard time believing that David Bowie had a "similar vocal range" to Billy Joel and Brian Wilson.View attachment 1108418
I never thought to measure this, but according to this tool it's from B1 to E5. That top end is definitely in my falsetto.
