I don’t really sing much these days, and despite singing in a few bands when I was a student, I hate the sounds of my singing voice.

I just just did a test on an app and apparently I’m a bass.

Thanks, Marc - which app, please?

The one I used was called Sing Whiz on iOS, no idea how accurate it is! Gave results in this format:

I'm a baritone (specifically a lyric baritone per a vocal instructor I once had). Not sure what my low range limit is but I can comfortably sing pretty low, but not quite bass range low.

When I was taking singing lessons and doing daily exercises I could sing up to the Bb above middle C (6th fret, 1st string - Bb5 maybe?). Now days I'm lucky if I can get the F# above middle C without straining though. I'd like to get back to taking lessons. Singing is all about the proper mechanics and learning to get out of your own head and relax.

Yeah @KeithDavies 100 maybe you're playing the 6th string on the 3rd fret and singing it an octave up. That low G is many people's lowest note and you're describing it as your highest note. That's down in "cookie monster" territory. Or maybe your calling the highest string or the 1st string the "low E" instead of the high E which is the standard way guitarists refer to it. The lowest or 6th string is closest to your head, the highest or 1st string is closest to your feet.
Cookie monster? I'm not THAT bad!!

But certainly lower than you hear songs sung in most contemporary music and, like I said, low enough that I struggle to find the notes to pitch alongside my 6-string. I can sing along to the notes on the low E string of a bass guitar. And by low, yes, I mean lowest in pitch, the string further from your feet. Unless you're playing it upside down behind your head! :)

Sing Whiz told me G2 to D4 = 19 semitones, baritone. I think I should be able to get bigger than that… but it’s a start!
(Also my accuracy needs to improve..😱😀)

Couldn't access that app but used another one, that gave me E2 to E3. So only one octave, and solidly bass.

I'm not sure what one does with a bass voice, but I guess I'll start learning!
There's plenty good voices out there in the low baritone and bass vocal range. Most of them stay in 12-17 semitone range which is about normal for anyone's sweet spot (prima voce).

Rich voices in the low register seem to carry yearning and melancholic songs better.
Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Garry Christian and this guy who has one of my favourite voices...
