Nah…the Jimmy Miller years are always hailed as the best albums.

Nah, by '69 The Stones were on their last good year. '68 and '69 produced some legendary material. "Street Fighting Man," "Gimme Shelter," and "Sympathy For The Devil" are, literally, three of the greatest songs ever made. But by 1970-71 The Stones were giving us simplistic crap like "Brown Sugar." They were done as a remarkable band by 1970.

We disagree.

Elvis stole his act.

No, Elvis didn't steal. He took songs (blues, gospel, country songs..) and made them completely different, completely his own. His "Milk Cow Blues Boogie" sounds nothing at all like the original. His "Hound Dog" is a rock song, the original is a deep blues song.

Elvis, I guess you don't know, was a rock artist. He took blues, country western, gospel tunes, anything he loved, and with Scotty and Bill, made them rock. It was absolutely brilliant what he did in the early years. Heard a song and interpreted it his way --- in other words, rock.

Elvis didn't steal. He completely changed songs. The Rolling Stones were playing blues songs as blues songs. That's stealing.

I literally joined to say these responses are hilarious.

Esp the Dartford comment loooool.
As far as sucked after 1969...
I think they stopped being good after Sticky Fingers. That's a very listenable album with great work by Mick Taylor.
My kid actually got turned onto the Stones with that album and kids arent rong lol.

Love and theft from Big Mama, Big Joe and others. Others followed, but you discount them all, or so it seems.

Sure, whatever you say, man.

See, here's the thing: my say matters because it is unbiased. I am a Stones fan but am unafraid to say that, yeah, when the '70s started the band started their long slow decline into the farce they are now. '60s Stones were truly a rival to The Beatles in many ways. Musical creativity, lyrically...man, the mid to late '60s Stones were stunning.

See, I can say good things about The Stones, and I can say bad things about The Stones ("Exile On Main Street is a double album set that should have just been a seven inch single called "Happy."). I can say good and bad. You can only say, "Stones are great! Stones are great!" That opinion soon becomes just noise.

No, I think their best albums are Beggars Banquet through Exile. Then they mostly become a singles band, for me. Those albums have most of the songs I have or would want to cover by them. And they were certainly not spent in this period, your opinion notwithstanding.

No, I think....

Here's a little Stones chart for you to clip to your refrigerator so you can see it every day.

THE ROLLING STONES:

1960s - brilliant
1970s - "Houston, we have a problem"
1980s - "May Day! May Day! SOS!"
1990s - "Don't bother sending lifeboats, all is lost!"
2000s - They shoot horses, don't they?

Ok, it’s not far off from what I said and think, which is all that ultimately matters.

I think we've nailed down their slide from relevance, post Exile.
There's some Tattoo I still like.

'Neighbors' almost makes me mad if I can't turn it off fast enough.
