Just curious if the pups in my Classic Vibe are real Jazzmaster pickups or something else under the hood. Whatever they are sound great!
Thanks

They follow the traditional JM pickup design. Generally, you can tell just by looking at them which ones they are. Pickups with adjustable pole pieces like on the J Mascis signature, (The pole pieces only appear to be adjustable with the flat head screwdriver slots, they actually do not lower or raise when turned.) will be closer in design to a P90, but if they have flat magnets, they are your standard JM style pickups.

They're based on the Duncan SJM-1 and SJM-2 pickups- the bridge pickup is overwound, but otherwise they're "real" Jazzmaster pickups. IMHO, they actually sound pretty good.

I've been a/b'ing mine with my son's Pure Vintage '65 loaded Jazzmaster a lot lately, and the Squier is slightly brighter. It may be the pickups, but it could be due to a number of factors. Either way, both sound great.

Thanks all! I’ve been playing since ‘91. This is my first Jazzmaster and I’m in love!

I think the newer CV JM pickups are fender design now. The older vintage modified were Duncan designed.

I don't think there's much difference, really.

-Fender licenses Seymour Duncan to send specs to an Asian factory and puts the "Duncan Designed" name on them.

-Fender sends the same specs to the same factory, but doesn't pay Seymour to put his name on them.
