They’re a European company and it seems finding info on them is a little difficult here in the States.

Love the look of their Teleman series, especially the T-54s, and enjoy the sounds on what few videos I can find on YouTube, but I’d love to hear from real users.

How do you like your Teleman?

Maybachs are excellent guitars. I got to play a few when I was in Austria last year and nearly bought one, but between the purchase price and shipping it back it would have gotten really expensive. I was told that the company started to fill the shortage of boutique and custom shop guitars which weren't readily available in Europe.

Can't speak to the Teleman. I played a couple of Les Paul-type and SG Juniors, and they were excellent.

There seem to be quite a few of them on Reverb now. When I looked last year they were nowhere to be found on there.

I dunno, they seem to be just another Fender Telecaster clone with a slightly different headstock shape to me;

I'll just stick with my Fender...

That is correct. I'm mostly concerned about consistency of quality, as I've found Fenders to be pretty hit-or-miss (and mostly the latter), so if this is indeed a (more-or-less) clone of an 'ideal' Tele of that period...why not look more into it? It's not like going out and testing guitars in person is the easiest thing right now...I'd rather get something I can be more sure of than not.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but I have had excellent results buying dozens of Fender products in the the last 24 years myself and find them to be consistently of the highest quality overall...

If you're looking for a quality Fender substitute, take a look at Bob Logan's guitars. I got one of his T-bodies last year and it's really well made - and for a lot less than the Maybachs.

Looking at the Reverb listings it looks like most of the Maybachs are shipping from overseas, which means extra money to get one to your door.

I don't know what to tell you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I suppose we have different standards, or maybe we simply frequent different Banjo Marts and other sundry stores?

Glad to help. :)

Bob cuts his own bodies, shapes his own necks, finishes in nitro (although he doesn't use grain filler, which turns some people off but I dig it), uses quality pickups (got Porters in mine), and he's a hell of a nice guy.

I bought an 'off-the-rack' guitar from his Reverb store (for under a grand!), but he'll build to your spec if you've got something specific in mind. If you want to see more, go look at the Logan owners group. Plenty of satisfied customers in that group, myself included.

I believe my standards are on par with anyone who has discerning tastes.

Sure, Fender isn't perfect, but to imply that they are mostly pumping out crap is not accurate by any measure either. Perhaps you can provide some proof of their widespread malpractice and expose their every flaw to the world.

Anyway, you are free to spend your money as you please, as am I, and I am more than happy to send it in Fender's direction - despite their supposed unbridled negligence...

I don't know who hurt you, but I am sorry that it happened.

I am hoping to learn more about Maybach Telemans (and, perhaps, other lesser-known, highly-consistent "Trad Tele" makers) in this thread. Thanks!

I am astounded that he is able to keep prices so low, but it's clearly working for him and his customers. Lots of happy owners in that thread!

Well, all I did was to point out that it's just another Fender Telecaster copy (out of literally hundreds already out there trying to capitalize on the design) and voiced my opinion that Fender makes a high quality instrument themselves. Either way, I never bashed Maybach but you sure in hell bashed Fender.

That said, perhaps if you had just posted this in the "Other T-Types and Partscasters" forum I would have never seen it in the first place and we would have most likely never crossed paths on the subject...

It’s a shame this thread got spoiled but I’d like to hear experiences with Maybach guitars too. Their single cuts look great, I often look at those and Eastman as I like both, but as you say it’s not like we can get out to try them at the moment.

Hey, if nothing else, my appalling defense of Fender should bring the Maybach fans out in hordes (if there are any) just to spite me.

You can thank me later if they do...

This is an old thread, but I had found this when debating whether to try a Maybach, and was disappointed to not find much feedback. Anyway, I decided to order one and just took it out of its case for the first time yesterday. I also currently have a Logan here to compare it to that I've borrowed.

One thing I found was that there is much more info on Maybach's parent company's website than on their own. I got the Teleman T61 (rosewood fretboard) and it's specs are here: (link removed)

So far I'm very happy with the Maybach! The neck was the main thing I was concerned about when ordering, and it's a very comfortable large C shape (specs say .94-1.0), and the gloss nitro finish is not sticky at all. The relicing is also something that seemed hard to capture in pictures, but I'm pleased with the appearance and it definitely feels like an old guitar. I also liked that the back of the neck still has its full finish unlike a few relics I've played. I think it would be in Fender's Journeyman category overall with checking on the body finish, aged hardware, and some small dings.

If anyone had any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer, and hopefully I can help the next person considering an international order where these guitars are impossible to try in person.

Got my Teleman Thinline since last Friday.
Only the hardware is slightly aged. The finish is not (fortunately for me).

The pickups are excellent (Van Zandt True Vintage) with an output on the lower side. Especially the neck pickup is great for blues, with a lot of snap. More like a Strat pickup, which I really like. The bridge pickup has all the twang you need. But you can tame it very nice with. Both pickups together is very funky with a slight quack.

It's very light weight, under 3 kg (6 lbs?). The neck is thick, with a 10 to 14" radius and a smoth satin finish.
Very, very nice guitar, I was impressed on the first unplugged tone, when I took it out of the case (which is also very nicely made, with a brown western style tolex and british green lace cushoin).

Not a cheap guitar, it goes for around € 2500 here in Germany. But it's definitely worth the money.

Cheers
Gerhard

@Lothy The thinlines and other models under their custom shop look really nice! The flame maple necks look awesome and I saw that they are even PLEK'd unlike the standard models. The standard models are much less money though (I paid just under €1400), which I was more comfortable with since I couldn't demo in person.

The pickups on mine are the Amber Twangtones, and the neck pickup is also more strat-like, although I would have preferred a more mellow neck tone. The bridge pickup is pretty full/fat sounding and more compressed. I had really liked the demos I had heard of the Van Zandt pickups and was tempted by the models that have them, but I had planned on trying some different sets of pickups in whichever I ended up with.

Also, here are a couple of pictures of mine (hopefully I do this correctly since it's my first time posting pics). Hopefully the checking on the body finish comes through on these images because it looks cool in person.

Maybe in an alternate universe but not the one we inhabit :D

I can think of at least 30 builders in the UK alone, if anything we have too many.

Since this thread is about Maybach, here are some other M's in Europe.

Manson. Manton. Mayones. Marleaux. Jimmy Moon. McIntyre Guitars, Maruszczyk. Mensinger. Moscato.

This is the 2nd Maybach post I've saw in as many days, good to see they are getting exposure :)
