In this case, it was built by a Fender factory repair tech from an old Vibratone cab. The new cab was built by a custom cabinet builder that he knows. All we had to try it out with was an old refurbished Bell and Howell PA amp, but it sounded really good.

As for it being a good deal....not really sure if it is. The price is high for a speaker cabinet, but just a touch higher than what a good doppler pedal would cost so maybe it is in the ballpark. It is pretty sharp for what it is and compact. I doubt I would be able to recover the price though if I did bail out on it right away....maybe half of it or better.

Just comes back around to how many times do you see these things and if you like the sound. Although the cabinet is different, it shares a similar design to this one.

Did the tech incorporate the Vibratone's built-in crossover? If so, the 8" speaker is handling only midrange and the the rest of the signal goes back to your other cabinet that reproduces the bass and treble. If no crossover, then the 8" speaker is handling the full range. That may affect your speaker choice.

Great question...will have to check on that

Fatal Pro make 3 different Neo 8"... the W8N8-150 has the widest top end, 150 (AES) - 300 (Peak) watts @ 1.7kg.

I have four FaitalPRO 8PR200 drivers in my bass cab, and they have a wide enough frequency response to sound good with my guitar and lap steel too. They’re neo and light, but unfortunately they cost $200 apiece.

If you want to hear what the Celestion TF0818 sounds like, check out this video. It is slightly dark, being a PA speaker, but they get good reviews in the Quilter combo and will handle 100W.

Man, I really liked how that little Fender sounded with the honkin’ big Celestion in there. Especially on the surfy part and the distorted part. The darker top end and more forward mids were right up my alley!

Yeah, I really like it too. So much so that I found one on Ebay for $30 and installed it into a converted wine crate. Came out nice and really does exactly what you say.

That’s my amp and my video, and I have to say the speaker sounds better and better every day. For some reason the champion 20 blackface deluxe model is pretty dark, so that particular bit wasn’t the best representation of this speaker. It is actually incredibly well balanced....And sounds freaking huge!

PS, I had the Weber 8F150 and found it uninspiring.

My favorite Weber 8 is the humble Ceramic Signature 8 with the smooth cone. Killer speaker for lower watt applications and cheap to boot.

@Hoodster, I should also say great job on that video. Your commentary was detailed and clear, but not overlong, and your playing was cool and did a nice job of showing a range or tones and styles without being overwhelmingly encyclopedic. You struck a good balance there.

Look for an old EV Coffee Can SP8b.
The color denotes the impedance as I remember it.
White is 8 ohms, brown is 16 ohms.
That's a hella lot of alnico right there for an 8", I kid you not.
Find one with a ripped cone for cheap.
You get a better price, and you get to have it reconed with a good guitar speaker cone.

This is the Coffee Can Alnico (preferred):

This is the ceramic (also worthy)
