Does anyone have any experience with Dupli-Color Clear Effex, particularly over an existing (poly) finish?

Been (very slowly) building a partscaster for my son and it has a black GFS XGP body. Thought using this stuff might give it some zing.

https://www.duplicolor.com/product/effex-glitter-effect-clear-coat/

"Dupli-Color® Effex® Clear Coat gives non-metallic paint a brilliant glitter effect. Available as a clear top coat which allows the base color it is applied over to shine through. Effex is formulated with tiny, brilliant-metallic particles that change colors when exposed to various angles of light. Ideal for accessories like body molding, hood scoops, mirrors and spoilers."

Thanks!

I've used it along with a lot of their Metal cast series. I like it but the down side is the drying time and it isn't near as hard as a poly finish. Looks cool as hell though.

Thanks. Have you seen it over black?

Oh yea, its on one of my favorite beaters. Doesn't really photo well though, just looks black but that's probably my fault. In person it really pops.

Nice. Did you add any clear-coat over top of it? Didn't know if that mattered since it is a clear-coat itself.

Yea. If you want to cut and polish it you'll need to or the micro flake in it will look wonky. If not it wont matter. Still have about a half gallon of some clear acrylic lacquer left over from my old auto painting days. The good EPA banned stuff that actually dries hard as a rock.

I did this Squier '51 pickguard. I painted the pickguard with black lacquer, hit it with the multicolor Effex Glitter and then clear-coated with lacquer until mirror smooth. In between clear coats I gave it a light mist coat of Duplicolor Metal Specs Metallic silver for a touch more reflectivity.

The guard looked charcoal gray/black until direct light hit it and you got a rainbow effect as the light hit from different angles. Guitar is long gone and this is the only pic I saved.
