Zakk Wylde blood clotting all over the place...

Don't listen to Zack but I hope he comes out of this OK. Don't like hearing this happening to anyone. Gettin' old is a b*tch. I'm beginning to see people my age (49) getting sick and even dying. This kind of stuff wasn't even on the radar when I was in my 20s and 30s.

 

Blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism) are usually fatal.

 

I customized my LP so that it has his EMG pickups in it. I hope he gets better, but I don't have much hope...

Well, I'm certainly surprised... but then I don't know what causes these things, so if there's something about being a guy who plays blistering guitar that could lead to such health issues I'd be in the dark.

He was a huge influence on my playing and put on one of the best shows I'd ever seen with Pride and Glory.

 

Blood clots in the legs can come from sitting in a plane for long time, thats why its good to move around at least once on a longer flight. Also laying in bed too long can do that. Thats why after surgery the staff wants to get you up and at least sitting ASAP. Hospitals will use those socks on people with a risk of clots also.

 

This condition is called Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Among the risk factors are prolonged sitting, such as during a long plane or bus ride. A pulmonary embolism is when a blood clot breaks loose and travels to the arteries in the lungs. DVT is usually treated with anti-coagulant drugs.
A friend of mine had DVT after traveling on several long plane rides. At first he thought it was just a cramp in his leg, but he went to the doctor and it was a clot.

I'm glad ZW is ok and getting treatment. Clots in the lung are very serious, but treatable.

 

Perhaps a tranfusion from Keef would help? In all seriousness, I hope he gets well. He is a heck of guitarist and a breath of fresh air with his honesty.

 

Could be; but money tends to help in overcoming that.

You kind of have to with life don't you? If you take things too serious you'll never get out alive. Keeping a positive outlook can go a long way.

I'm not a fan of the really heavy stuff, but I love "Hangover Music Vol. VI" because it's awesome. I hope he makes it out fine, and maybe he will start donating to this type of thing, and try to make it a less fatal condition. Get well Zakk.

 

that picture says a lot about him as a human being. seems like the kind of guy i'd like to hang out with.

his playing is quite good, IMHO--i have a lot of students into him. the cool thing is, he's a really open minded player, and kids who get into him tend to emulate that--they end up liking everything from modern metal to classic ozzy and sabbath stuff to all the good southern rock and even the outlaw-ish country.
