    Why do I have to pick up every stitch? What if I miss one? they are quite small you know.

    Historically in Welsh folklore the mother maiden crone trio of witches would measure, weave and cut the fabric of each person's life. If you missed a stitch, I imagine it'd be disastrous, like losing years off of your life.
