I've been making some compilation playlists and I know that I'm missing a lot
of music/songs/bands. I usually start with a 'greatest hits' or 'best of' and pick
some from there then search out some of my other favorites from the artist(s).

Interesting that Willie Nelson never recorded one, but I have my own already
    from him.

So, what are your most favorite 'Greatest Hit" or "Best Of" albums?

This band can do anything, and this compilation has a little of everything through Kiko.

I most appreciate 'best of' compilations when it is for artists that have particularly daunting discographies.

My personal favorite along these lines is The Fall's "50,000 Fall Fans Can't be Wrong."

I only have a couple because I much prefer complete albums but the ones I do have I like

Marshall Tucker double disc that came out probably 20 years ago. Mostly live stuff

Bad Company that I didn't realize was live until I put it in. Glad I got that one

And George Thorougood that's probably called greatest hits

Neil Young's Decade that for some reason I don't think of as a greatest hits

And Celtic Frost, Parched With Thirst I Am, And Dying. Although Celtic Frost never really had any hits in the normal world . But in their genre they're pretty much OGs

    Tom Petty.

I dont consider most delta blues guys' albums greatest hits, simply because they weren't putting out records really when they were actually making the iconic music. Ditto Buddy Holly/people who barely got a whole modern CD out before they died.

Also, some greatest hits albums omit great songs (REM, I'm looking at you) and sometimes, live albums do more for me than compilations/GH. (SRV live at Montruex, 82/85)

Tom Petty easily my favorite GH album. Sure, you gotta pull out other stuff to hear some great songs, but still....

Not "greatest hits," per se, but The Troggs Hit Single Anthology is one of the best singles compilations I've ever owned (if not THE best): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000025XE5/?tag=tdpri-20.

A and B sides of all of their great singles. They were a singles oriented band, so this is actually better than getting their albums IMO.
