Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers had a horn section at Live Aid. IMHO it does not work well on this song:

That was probably a nice change for the band since they'd probably played a million times by then.

Umm, every horn part. Except on Superstition. I hate horns.

What a strange concept. I guess the horn solo in The Boxer by Simon and Farfunkle. Even then I don’t dislike it. Just my least favorite.

Oh man, that's too bad. I heard Chicago is looking for a guitarist and they were just about to call you.

I'm pretty sure John Fogerty wore that same jacket when I saw him a few years ago.

I guess it goes to show, it's all about context.

The outro of When A Man Loves A Woman.
I’d like to take Percy’s sledgehammer to the out of tune trumpet(s) on it.

Chicago's horn section was hot horns. Yesssssssssssss...and then I go back to NY and my first concert to see Chuck Mangione. I have liked horns for a while including Louie and then Herb Alpert. No so much in a rock, pop rock, blues, country or other band.

As a former winds player, I guess I am a little more tolerant.

I just don't like wind or horn playing where the player sounds like someone trying to blow their nose.

That’s quite alright, as I also don’t like Chicago.

The best horn section? Or the worst? You decide.

I kind of disagree with the OP. I found the horns in that rendition of American Girl really nice and experimental.

    Lest favorite ?

Every horn part on a Seger or Springsteen song.

    I like Bob*.

    I like Bruce.

    I like Jazz.

I like some sax in rock.

But, pretty much limited to James Chance in the No Wave days, Steve Mackay w/ the Stooges, and 50’s stuff like Duane Eddy instrumentals.

*Sax on Seger tunes marked the beginning of the end. Let’s sprinkle some East coast boardwalk cheese on muscular Detroit rock n roll. No thanks...
