I played without pedals for quite awhile, so didn't get any 'til the late '70s sometime. Got 2 used ones on the same day: a Big Muff Pi and a Morley Power Wah. I still have them in storage, I think.

LRE Fuzz Sound It lasted about 1 year until I played a friend's Mosrite Fuzzrite. My Dad copied the circuit & rebuilt it into a Mosrite Fuzzrite. Stupidly I ended up scraping it to use the case house a Craig Anderton Optical Compressor. Lost track of the original pieces over the years. The case still lives on however. The compressor was removed & rebuilt into a modern housing. The LRE housing now has a replica Fuzzrite installed in it.

I bought a Rat when I saw an add in Guitar Player in the early 80's.

Hard to remember but it was a Boss HM2 or lilac Ibanez Chorus or possibly my Dunlop Wah.

I certainly remember using the HM2 for the first time.

Carlsbro Phase 2 - a whole weeks pay went on it, but thinking back I'm sure I was ripped off by the sales guy....

The next one I can remember was an Arion distortion.

Tronix DS-710 distortion. I bought it at the Sears Surplus store in Charlotte, NC for $10. It's kind of like a Big Muff in a small black box. Dual opamp chip, JRC4558D. I still have it, but don't use it much.

Wow! I want it. I have no idea what the controls do or how it sounds, but that is cool!

1977 MXR 6 band Graphic. Used it on my acoustic as a pre into the PA.
I later destroyed it trying to wire in a power supply jack and an on/off stomp switch.
I still have it though, hoping to someday find someone that can fix it...

    It may be Russian, but the lettering makes sense to me reading Ukrainian. The treadle says 'Drive Distortion', which may be what the toggle selects between. Maybe the 'Distortion' setting adds more gain and clipping? Otherwise;

The top left says 'Dist' which is of course 'Distortion'.
    The top right says 'Drive'.
The red markings and the toggle suggest to me a selection of two 'circuits'.
    The bottom left says 'Level'.
The bottom middle says 'Timbre' which I'll guess is 'Treble'.
The bottom right says 'Resonance'. Maybe 'Bass'?

Probably a pretty cool pedal. Even if it sounds 'bad' by today's overdrive and distortion standards, I'd love to have one for posterity.

DOD Phasor 201, ca. 1979. I lent it out to various guys in bands over the years (I was mainly a drummer), and it actually came back years after the last guy borrowed it. Unfortunately it was noisy as all heck, bad pot and clock noise, so rather than rebuilding the original board (didn't like the looks of those circuit traces!), I wired up a BYOC Phase 45 clone board in there and gave it to my son. Put a standard Boss style power jack in it and an LED drilled through the "O" in DOD :)
It was beat to hell and I wouldn't have sold it anyway, and I'm glad to see my son kick it on from time to time.

MXR Distortion + which I bought used with the box for $25 in 1985 or '86. I haven't used it in years. The last time I took it out I found the foam insert in the box and covering the circuit board had disintigrated, making quite a mess.

Yeah...Well, I been around awhile. Longer than stomp boxes. I think my first was a trem, if I remember right, but not sure if it qualifies as a stompbox. It was a D'Armond made piece that actually plugged into the guitar rather than the amp and was filled with mercury to create the effect. Yeah...Well, I been around awhile...
