Seconded. There are other great choices too, but George wins out.

There’s not too many I can think of from around here

    Bernard Purdie the drummer

Was born and raised 15 miles from where I live

There’s a couple famous people from the Baltimore/ Washington D.C area

Danny Gatton used to play clubs down around D.C a lot

And to the north around Wilmington-Newark Delaware area George Thorogood would play

Gatton would be my favorite of those I mentioned

According to Wikipedia, the only musician from my hometown is:

"Steve Askew, guitarist, member of British new wave band Kajagoogoo"

Therefore, my favourite musician from my hometown has to be Steve Askew, guitarist, member of British new wave band Kajagoogoo

Not many famous ones from Maine.

    There's Rudy Vailee:

My favorite contemporary guitar player is a local hotshot named Nat Bailey:

I used to see him playing around Philly, and I stole so much stuff from him when I was just figuring out how to solo. I still play a lot like him.

I think The Derailers started in Portland, Oregon, my old home town. Some fine playing on their albums!

I'm a native New Yorker, so my list is way too long to narrow down, but I'll go out on a limb and say Joe Pass.

Port Colborne, Ontario where I grew up is barely a city....but it did produce the DeFranco Family. I was in the same primary school.

Nearest city north producing a world class musician would be St. Catherines.
    Neil Peart.

Heading east 20 miles over the river and there's Buffalo. Billy Sheehan came from there.

I'm sadly ignorant of anyone else from the area.

I’m really spoiled for choice here, so I’m limiting my choice to just guitarists:

Chris Thile and Steve Salas the only "big" names from my hometown.

Used to see CT at local pizza place as a kid.

SS was a year younger than me in HS and played in local back yard bands.

Lot's of other great players back in the day that never quite got out of the back yards or bar bands. A few great sessions players too.

Hmmm... a no brainer for Athenian members really... I hope Nick Fanis agrees! :D

Yannis Spathas. He was born in Paxos but grew up close enough to Athens for me to mention him.

He plays the red strat here:

EDIT: I should mention, the other guitarist (Akis Tourkogiorgis) is no slouch either.

Jimi Hendrix. I used to see his dad driving around in his pick up truck in the 70's
