One I always love to hear when it comes on the radio: "Sweet Magnolia Blues".

    Soso Mississippi Sweet Magnolia Blues..

Soso MS is a very small "town", about 8 miles from my home town.

Really it's just a crossroads with a convenience store and a post office.

I'll probably be driving through there today.

I'm pretty sure I heard Johnny Cash sing "Haverstraw" in I've Been Everywhere.
It's a totally nondescript little town along the Hudson River in NY, where I used to live.

This is going to be complicated...

On my profile on here it says Birmingham as I thought on an international forum folks might have heard of it/ be able to find it on a map. However, I am really from the Black Country which is a collection of small towns that border Birmingham. It's a very fine distinction but it does mean I get to mention Black Country Woman by Led Zeppelin. I guess it's also possible Black Country Communion mention the area somewhere in a song.
    And there's this...

Often said to be about Coventry although Dammers said it was inspired by Glasgow. There is a very good Sound on Sound article ( on the net somewhere) about the recording of it well worth a read. Amazing that in the chaos of the recording that it got made at all.

I grew up in Tucson, so off the top of my head there was “Get Back” by the Beatles, “ by Little Feat, and the Dead’s “Jack Straw”. None were about the place, but it played a role or was mentioned in all of em. I suspect it’s just a word that’s easy to drop into a lyric...

I was at school with Jerry.....and at some of those 'too much fighting in the dance hall' gigs. If he says that lyric was inspired by Jamaica, he's pulling your leg. :)

    And there's "Hot Coffee", nearby.

Before I went into kayaking, I had just the canoe and I made it my business to canoe basically every river in MS south of I-20 and east of I-55 (and others also). So, these small towns meant something to me beyond just names on a map. Meals, or maybe a tankful of gas. Or, if local dogs made a bicycle shuttle too sketchy, I'd hire a local shuttle. Good people, and sometimes it was hard to convince them to accept payment. D'Lo, and Taylorsville and Enterprise and Mount Olive (and so many more).

Louisiana 1927 captures the abject fatalism of South Louisiana, like nothing else does.

Tragedy is a part of life, they say, and those who accept this, stay and multiply, and those who can't stand it, leave and find safety and a higher order of existence elsewhere.

I've often wondered if Frey ever made it to Tehachapi or Tonopah. I'm the only one in my family that has all four.

I'll never forget the decent sized, grassy City Park in Tehachapi as it was one of the last places my pup showed some spirit, running, a number of weeks before her demise.
