I lived in Boston in 1969. I turned five that year.
So I probably shouldn’t be posting this. Cuz it’s 72 I think. But it’s just so fun.
UK places are hard. This is the closest I can think of - where I was at college. And this song's not even about the UK town. Which is actually a city.
I just Googled "Songs about Croydon", where I was born. I'd never heard any of them so I'm not counting them.
This one grows on me.
Shoot, forgot about these.
I’m originally from Pittsburgh.
“They’re really rockin’ in Boston
In Pittsburgh PA”
Here ya go, FrettingOut.....
...east of Virginia where the bay meets the river.....
...where you don't need nothin' but some beer and a bushel, down in Mary's Land
I've listened to these guys a lot lately.
If Bob Wills was the King then Merle was surely one of the crown princes.
And if you're ever driving in West Texas you will be able to relate to this song.
"Neal's Fandango" by the Doobie Brothers includes the lines:
Goin' back, I'm too tired to roam, Loma Prieta my mountain home
On the hills above Santa Cruz, in the place where I spent my youth
Someone once told me the Doobies used to live RIGHT ON MY STREET here, but I'm not sure. I'm about 15 miles from Santa Cruz and look straight at Loma Prieta about 8 miles away off my back deck.
Here's a little trip up Loma Prieta Road, past the apple orchards and vineyards. I didn't write the article but have been up the road many times for the view out towards Monterey. And yes I used to ride my bicycle up there before I... became kinda old.
@Antmax mentions that England doesn't have its own national anthem. The British national anthem has awful lyrics, and should be retired to a home where it can ramble about empire and shout at clouds.
Billy Connelly once had me in pain from laughing when he suggested, and demonstrated, that our anthem should be replaced with the theme from the radio soap 'The Archers'
We don't really have local songs, so I'll go with :
I am using my home state, not the one I live in.
There are many, but I think this one is my favourite.
Oh Canada , eh? Lol!
old cape cod-patti page rock n roll band boston
Not sure if Edmund Fitzgerald mention MI but it’s very treasured here. Also Detroit Rock City, Motor city madhouse etc. somewhere along the line there’s a cat named Kalamazoo. No references to my town. Not too many songs about the baby food Capital of the world .
