Nasty slide player
An Aussie master
I tend to like slide played by guys who aren't really "slide players" per se.
I love how they approach it from a different (often much sparer and simpler) angle.
For standard guys, Lindley's tone is just nasty (in the best way).
This clip impessed me a lot, don't know, just feels so fine...
...and everytime I watch this part of the Danny Gatton show its like: get outa here!!
Wow, no votes for Bob Weir?!?!
Hans Olsen is a local Arizona blues legend that I can see every Thursday night at the watering hole down the street from me:
Hound Dog Taylor
Rollo Smith (criminally unknown Fort Worth bluesman)
Lee Roy Parnell
Dave Hole was/is technically amazing, and it looked cool him playing over the neck with a 10" pipe, but I never dug his tone at all. He made Albert Collins sound like a bass player.
...and this might be sacrilegious, but I just don't dig Derek Trucks. He's an amazing player, and has more talent in his toenail clippings than I have in my whole body, but I just don't dig it. I think I need to go see him live, and I'll re-assess.
Legend has it Bobby learned to play slide on stage. Listening to him, I can believe it. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of his playing.
Most of the slide players I really like have already been mentioned, save one. Ariel Posen.
Slidey bits start at 3:39
Many already named, plus Peter Stroud from Sheryl Crow’s band.
Forgot Roddie Romero.
I love this gent for many reasons...forever young and fiery at 75 (!!)...
I'm surprised that Leo Kottke hasn't got a mention yet
Among the many great players already named he must surely deserve his spot.
On the phone at the moment so can't post a vid but there are many stunning examples of his wizardry
Leo should have been listed in the first post. Besides being a technical wizard, he has a original style, and walks his own path. A great artist.
Some of the best I know is Kokomo Arnold, Howlin’ Wolf and Rory Gallagher, to ad some (hopefully) not mentioned.
Not in any order:
Im sure I'm forgetting........
Oh- and Mick Taylor
