    What is roll? It's the swing that is present in the rhythm. Rock music doesn't swing. Rock and roll does because it retains elements of swing and jump blues. Rock and roll has a looser feel than straight ahead rock because of that.

    Interesting song...written by Australian Johnny O'Keefe but redone by Jerry Allison of Buddy Holly fame...that's the one everyone copied. Iggy rocked it live and so did Joan Jett.

    Nobody mentioned Rocket 88, arguably the first rock n' roll record cut in 1951, and it swings, but check out T-Bone Walker's Guitar Boogie cut a year before in 1950.
