    Ok, not in order:

The Grateful Dead ( plus any other Jerry)
    Neil Young
    John Prine
    Bob Dylan
    Doc Watson
    David Bromberg
    Dickey Betts
    Duane Allman
    Johnny Winter
    The Beatles
    The Stones
    Muddy Waters

    Edit:
    * Ha! Just realized I left off Eric Clapton, who I (may) play like, more than all of the above! That's why these lists are impossible

Good exercise. Good question. I didn’t know how to set about constructing a meaningful list. I guess the best way for me to determine “favorite” and/or “influential” was to ask myself “Self, what do I play, what do I want to learn or revisit, when I go to my studio to play guitar”?

    Thanks

The Beatles, of course, but I won't include them in my dozen; they transcend the silly lists populated by mere mortals.

Okay, in alphabetical order, here are twelve that I think have influenced me, mostly when I was a yute. These are not just artists I like, but artists who had something to do with the way I play, the stuff I chose to play in front of drunks in bars years ago when I did that sort of thing, and a couple others whose influence is squishier, maybe more spiritual than strictly musical. And I'm sure I've missed a couple that should be here instead of a couple that are, but this is what comes to mind today:

    Marcel Dadi
    Rev. Gary Davis
    John Fahey
    Flatt and Scruggs
    Steve Goodman
    Woody Guthrie
    John Hartford
    Mississippi John Hurt
    Roger Miller
    Joni Mitchell
    Willis Alan Ramsey
    John B. Sebastian
    Paul Simon
