You'd have to work really hard to not like Dave Grohl

Great interview with Brian Johnson. It's long, but well worth it.
Dave is just such a chill, humble guy:

He also played with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers for a short stretch.

Dave's from Warren, next door to Youngstown where I grew up. Plenty of fans there and positive stories about the guy. I'm sure some of them are even true. :D

I wish FF music moved me more than it does, that is not much. But that's okay.

He always seemed like such a optimistic positive positive person!!

It's hard to believe yet that he was in a band with Kurt Cobain, in all of his emotional and physical pain, that he chronicled in his music so strongly.

Watch the film Sound City, all about a studio, a recording desk and the albums they made. He tells the story and a bloody good story it is too.

I just watched the whole show, wow that was outstanding! Brian Johnson does a great job with the interview too. I learned a ton from this... like how Dave's mother wrote a book where mom interviews other rock star mothers. I just bought the audible which mom also narrates, should be interesting. Dave has lived an amazing life, as has Brian.

    Thanks for posting this @Ron R !

I liked some of his early stuff (I remember being blown away by his "Pocketwatch" cassette at the height of Nirvana's fame), but Grohl seems to feel like he has to prove he can "rock out" all the time, when his real strength is more melodic stuff. Recent Foo Fighters albums seem pretty bland and uninspired to me.

But then you keep hearing stories about all the cool stuff he does. I was just reading an interview with The Cribs about their recent album- they were mired in a legal battle with their management and were considering breaking up. Apparently they were backstage at a Foos show, and Grohl told them "No, don't break up! Just do what you do- make another album!" and invited them to his home studio in LA. The guy genuinely loves music, and it shows.

Big fan. The Foo albums since their fourth one haven't really done it for me, but I'm obviously in the minority and his ambassadorship for playing and enjoying music is tough to argue with.

I must agree. I’m not into all of his music or all of his ideas or all of his whatever, but he sure seems like a good guy.

I'm congenitally indifferent to famous people, and Rock Stardom leaves me as cold as an ex-girlfriend's heart, but Grohl has always struck me as someone worth meeting. Nothing becomes a fellow so much as not needing a publicist.
