You obviously did not read my post. If you did, you would have read:
I've assigned my son to take possession and responsibility for of all of my gear.... he knows what I have.
yeah...I read it...ya ole toot!... seriously no issues and not stomping on your case... Just making a point. All is good... and yeah... I DID read about your son, etc... That's great. good move, mate.

Good question: have forum members thought much about what happens to their belonging (not just gear) when they die, or "pass", if that's the preferred euphemism?
Of course. I'll sell stuff off. I also have a young but well-established gear whisperer who said he'd take what's left, sell it, take a percentage, and give my wife the rest.

I don't have much else that's worth anything. Pathetic, if you think about it. So I don't.

I was just thinking about this for our dog. He's getting old and nearing the end of his life. In the closet by the front door there's a box with all his "worldly possessions": chew toys, jackets he refuses to wear, a spare collar. It all fits in a small box...

I am currently wrestling with myself about downsizing…for instance…I have a 2008 Collings City Limits that was my “go to” guitar for gigs for years…now I haven’t done a gig in years and I never play it…I should sell it…but I’m not sure I can sell it because, even though I hardly ever play it….I just like owning it for some reason.

Decisions…decisions…decisions.

If you're in your "senior" years...how much does that affect lusting for new stuff?
Now that I could afford a new ___ (Ric 360/12?).....my *adult* mind says. "Thin the herd". Don't collect more. My parents did this and when they passed, was easy to deal with their final belongings. I'd cringe (roll over in my grave) if I knew a nephew sold a $5k guitar for silly vacation or similar....like I'd know!
I used to collect Gas but, I've passed it-on.

I resent being referred to as an old toot- I am a superannuated gaseous indiscretion, thank you!

I have told my wife and daughter that I the US telecaster is worth some money and sell it or keep it at their discretion. My other guitars are not valuable and I suggested they give those to a school or a charity that can use them. I do have a BFSR I need to determine what to do with though. This thread is a nice reminder.

I really couldn’t care less about the burden on my kids of unloading my stuff after I’m gone. And if no one in my family wants my special guitars, so what? Sell them to someone who does. It’ll have nothing to do with me.

I don’t have that much music gear (eight guitars and four amps) to worry about it being a burden, but I have about 20 surfboards in my shed that I have no idea what to do with. At least ten of them have some strong sentimental value (to me). Most, if not all, aren’t that sellable for one reason or another.

About 25 years ago, the nice old lady across the street died. I watched in horror as her kids put 95% of her worldly possessions out to the curb. All her memories, all these things that she felt some attachment to, just thrown away. I realized that someday the same would probably happen to a lot of my stuff.

Not a very fun topic:(
