My mom's basement.
Never have even seen a cheese curd.
But I’d love to try that out.

And it doesn’t snow here but we have definitely pulled one another on waterskis behind four wheelers after hurricanes.
I am sure you've seen them all smashed up and aged. What is being discussed is really the curd for commercial cheddar early in the making process. It is very mild cheese bits and the chemistry at that point makes it squeaky when you chew it. The squeaky aspect only lasts 3-5 days and that's why it is not often seen in typical food retailing.

yeah it's kind of amazing how Leinie's went from being considered "well, it that's all you've got..." to snobby microbrew (even though it isn't)

marketing is really something, sometimes

When I was attending UW-Platteville I would frequently make a run to the Huber brewery and pick up a few cases of short-fill cans for like 10 cents/can. We about drank Huber and only Huber.

Oh I didn't think anyone thought it was snobby microbrew, but Miller tries to market it as microbrew. Maybe that works in other states. When I started drinking it Miller had already bought it and people said it wasn't as good as it used to be. But I know it's truly not as good today as it was in the 90s. I haven't bought any in a long time, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at one.
I'm finding it hard to beat new glarus more and more. They've kept quality high and never got swept up in chasing after the IPA trends. Their prices are a little lower than a lot of breweries who can't hold a candle to them.

you really can't.

One night for a change of pace, in a dive I used to frequent in Sun Prairie (Wagner's), my then-drinking buddy and I switched from our normal PBR to Spotted Cow.
I told her that it was kind of amazing that we drink that other crap when this good stuff is readily available, and she agreed

it's got zero cool appeal though, and there's a reason it's pretty much the constant offering you'll find at local bourgeoise events

I was amazed to learn that outside of the state, they really don't know cheese curds, say nothing of deep fried curds.
About the closest you'll find is mozerella sticks

I just noticed they left the 'R' out of Ranch.

Well I think they're cool, but I also like polka.

You know you live in Wisconsin (and it's winter) when you see the Amazon vehicle on your block, and rather than just go out to the porch, you check online to see if the delivery was for you

I just did exactly this. Really it's not bad at all out there. But yeah...

Polka is the best thing you ever heard in your entire lifetime...

for like, the first thirty seconds or so.
Then, it really needs to stop

It's like bluegrass that way
On the polka records I'd heard as a kid, yeah. But when I'd see polka bands at a bar in new glarus, or at the come back, there was a lot more to it. Jazzier, like big band. More dynamics, clarinet solos, heavy driving accordion bass, and then there's that polkabilly goose island ramblers stuff. I actually got into conjunto first, when I was trying to play bajo sexto, and it led me to my own back yard. If you get past roll out the barrels, there's more going on.
There's a show on 98.7 I'm hoping to get time to listen to soon;

Your local A&W may have fried cheese curds. Our local is about 90 mins. away, and in the summer reeks of manure spreading.

It's not just a Wisky thing, we do the same thing in Minnesota too. My kids beg me to get the wheeler going after every snow. It may sound hillbilly to some of you city dwellers but you don't know what you're missing!
