Company I work for recently hired a Client Engagement Manager.. nice guy, means well.

But in the conf calls I've participated with him, he comes off sounding really bad. Every sentence has a plethora of "you know.. you know..." over and over. Makes me want to pull my hair out! It sounds terrible.

I almost want to record the calls and say "go back and listen to yourself, get some speech therapy".

How can people fix these speech problems?

You know, I'm really tired of hearing "you know" all the time.

    Peace...

i agree completely! how can even the news people continually say: you know, like, umm, anyway, so, i mean, look, just sayin',it goes on and on and on. why do any of this when you can just pause, collect your thoughts and proceed. oh, too easy?

a friend of mine says you know 5 times in one paragraph. i finally said no i don't know anything.

    play music!

Agreed. I don't mind it in the coffee shop but hate it in the workplace. One of my colleagues seems to begin every sentence with either, "To me..." or "So..."

I think teens, 20- and 30-somethings don't even notice. But I find it to be really distracting.

It's my theory that everyone has something in their speech pattern that they overuse, misuse, or use for meaningless fill, and you'll hear it if you listen long enough, and it will begin to annoy you.

Luckily, most of us don't listen to most people long enough to get to that point.

    I blame Bill Withers.

BTW please add "So" to the list.

...and no more "doubling down" for media spoke weasels

    The one I can't stand:

Choices - It's not really a price increase because now you have so many "choices" available. Your payment choices for those things that used to be free have tripled!!! Triple price increase, but triple the payment options. It's a win-win transaction. Oh, by the way, you need to carry this "rewards" card with you to enable us to track all your choices and ensure that you never pay a low price again. Hooray for choices!

He probably has no idea he’s doing it.

Not sure the best way to alert him to it is though.

    Cheers,
    Geoff

Saying "yes, I know" a couple times after he asks "you know?" would probably work.

"But at the end of the day..." does it really matter?
