Andy Partridge (XTC) wrote a song about a satellite but it was really about a woman that was interested in him.

I think he finally left his partner at the time for "the satellite". I dunno if they're still together.

Do you think we could restore the orbit of this crashing Euro satellite if we just transmitted The Ventures in radio wave form towards it 24/7? :)

This might be interesting to some...the success of Telstar helped finance a few Joe Meek projects including The Outlaws and a Tornados spin off band called Heinz and the Wild Boys (Heinz Burt was the Tornado's bassist). I think Ritchie Blackmore's playing was ahead of it's time on these cuts.

"Telstar" spent 3 weeks at #1 (U.S.) and was replaced by "Go Away Little Girl" by Steve Lawrence.

It was a HUGE song on the radio station in my hometown in northern Illinois.

I bet all the other satellites are jealous.

BTW...all those satellites up there are probably responsible for global warming...but that's another thread for another day.

That bass player went on to play Race Bannon in the Johnny Quest cartoons- little known fact but there it is- you're welcome.

Is that a Farfisa (AKA Cheesy Farfeesi) in the Tornados video?
