it keeps people talking about these trivial matters, while the REAL news goes totally ignored and folks keep their heads buried in the sand. the leaders of countries absolutely love these trivial news stories. the "dark web" really? does that require a different service provider? pffffft.

Apparently there's a disproportionately high number of users in the D.C. metro area. Nothing shocking there, but it will be interesting to see if any big names are revealed. Somehow I'm pretty sure there will be.

Like alot of you I'd never heard of it before the news broke. Like the hookup thing on Craigslist I didn't hear of that till an ex brother in law got caught using it. His name was Craig so it sorta fit.
Didn't help him in court though!

Read an article maybe 6 months ago discussing Internet privacy or the lack of privacy. It was noted that 80% of divorces now have an internet component.. The article was primarily referring Facebook's role in divorce but cited other forms of Internet communications too. This was before I ever heard of Ashly Madison.

I just wonder why these people even bother getting married in the first place.

Some people have a favorite guitar that they want to cherish, love, play, and spend the rest of their lives with.... and yet, these poor people still sometimes want to play with other guitars too.... I mean, who could possibly need more than 1 guitar? Its crazy I know....

Regardless of what the customers were up to, it was legal. The theft of their personal information is illegal and the hackers should be caught and punished, anyone publishing the info should be changed as an accessory after the fact.

My wife asked me what the Ashley Madison website was...

Is there ANY correct answer to that question?

(Disclaimer - I've never used the site, never been tempted to: but if I knew what it was, (which I do, because I know things), it wouldn't look good)

If people want to carry on, it doesn't bother me, either. Thankfully, I'm hideously unattractive, so have never been tempted. But I can't judge those who might be.

I think the bigger issue here is our personal privacy. Looks anything on the net is up for grabs from the IRS to the personal relationship sites. It's not good.

It is worrying. You hear about attacks on sites all the time that allow personal info to be compromised. And because people have their info in so many sites and have so many logins (it averages 20 IIRC), people often just use the same password on many or all of them just so they can remember it. So, when login details are stolen from one site, they often let attackers get into to someone's other accounts. Scary stuff.

Those were my first 2 thoughts when I heard about the scandal.
Bones brings up a good point also.
If someone is a cheater I keep them at arms length. I figure that if you cheat on someone you made a vow with, you would have no problem screwing a friend.

Extreme righteous indignation over cheaters is suspicious - at best.

Mmmm....no, at least when it comes to myself.

Hmmm... It's in our genes, buddy! We weren't designed to mate for life, like geese,

It's in mine; once I dedicate myself to that person, place or object I am totally loyal and dedicated. My personality is ISTJ, look it up.
