Has Fibromyalgia come up?
Unless they recently discovered an actual cause, that’s a debilitating variety of chronic pain that has no clear cause. I’ve read theories but not any actual cause.

How many MRI's have you had? I've had several...I left the factory with a few faulty parts. Two years ago, I was headed towards a third surgery but epidurals got me back on my feet and the disc is no longer touching the nerve. If you gave me an MRI right now, it would probably be fine, a disc can shift. If you weren't in pain during your MRI, it's possible.

If you have radiating pain in an arm or leg, usually constant dull pain with sharp flashes of very sharp pain...you need a new doctor and another MRI.

Either way, another doc's opinion is important...you shouldn't ignore pain or live with it without knowing what's causing it. There could be something seriously wrong. Hope not, but you need to find out and another doctor may help.

I trust my neurosurgeon, but I did get a 2nd opinion before my 2nd surgery. His feelings weren't hurt.

If you’re not getting what you want from your GP try asking for a referral to a specialist your think is associated with whatever it is that’s bothering you.

FWIW we have an accident insurance/ accident settlement/ accident lawyer industry on it!
If you have a serious injury and an insurance settlement in the works that hasn't been settled yet, the insurance company will send sleuths out to follow you around with a video camera, and try to catch you looking fine carrying groceries without your neck brace etc etc.

Why would they do such a thing???
Because we try to scam insurance companies all the time, and we also try to scam doctors into giving us recreational pain meds we don't actually need for pain.

Really, the larger problem is Docs NOT being skeptical of patients claiming to be in pain when there is no clear cause of the pain.

But cases where there is pain with no clear cause are totally unrelated to Docs need to be skeptical of dope seekers and insurance frauds.
Patients need to advocate for themselves, and not just give up when a Doc says "I can't find anything wrong with you". If the patient walks away, the Doc has no reason to dig deeper.
Only if the patient keeps complaining will a Doc order more tests when there is zero medical evidence of a need for tests, only a patient who says they are in pain.

Similarly; and this is what I'm facing now, when we apply for disability due to chronic pain, the guv invariably denies the first application, and we must apply a second and maybe a third time.
("Due to chronic pain" being key to multiple applications; as opposed to run over by a train and being chopped in half. Chronic pain is negotiable)
Worse still, we are required to not work any job during the application process that may take a year. My chronic pain has diminished my ability to work for more than 15 years, but 1) I like my work, and 2) I never saved a whole years income to live on while waiting for my applications to be processed. Of course I could break the law and cheat on my taxes, which they may assume is how partially disabled citizens go about the business of being in constant pain?
Consider that while we commit tax fraud to comply with regs as we apply for disability due to being all busted up, we have no workers comp insurance!

The only time I have had any problems with a doctor not believing me, was one particular doctor at a walk in clinic that contracted with the company I work for. It was a workmans comp claim and the company was their client, not the employees.

And it wasn’t just me who had an issue with him. He was so bad that he even had an unkind nickname among the employees who had also been treated by him. He sent me back to full duty once with a back injury that ended up requiring surgery.

Until I found a doctor that would listen and trust some of my judgement I got no help.
Try and find a doctor that can listen and communicate well.
Pain is real and everyone deals with it individually

One more vote for another doctor. It sounds weird that a doctor doesn't believe a patient suffers from pain. What is the purpose to go to work? To listen to patients and tell them they are lying? If I were you, I'd look for another specialist and take painkillers while you are in search. Though it is better to check the info about such medications. You can visit the online pharmacy sites for this purpose.

When I was taking pain meds a nurse told me that no matter what your problem is,if you take pain meds,people will treat you different.And not in a good way.I found that to be true.
