You are in a party, someone hand you a guitar, what would you play?

The few times it’s happened I’ll do the intro to Joplin’s Summerime”. If I’m sorta feeling it I’ll continue while trying to get someone to sing. If I’m not feeling it I’ll hand the guitar back and admit my hands hurt and thank them for the opportunity
No reason to be rude

Jackie Wilson Said- Van / Dexy's. Guaranteed singalong even with folks who don't know the tune.

'Too-ra-langa-langa, too-ra-langa-lang'

Last time that happened it was 1987 and I always played "Driver 8" by REM.

Ooh, good choice.

I never go to parties, so this is purely hypothetical. Despite that, I’m the kind of guy who likes to be prepared “just in case” so I have two such songs at the ready: Michael Penn’s “No Myth” and Joe Jackson’s “Is She Really Going Out With Him?”

I somehow have Don't Think Twice It's All Right and Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues fully memorized with a nice little solo. I think I also know a couple of Mississippi John Hurt tunes to the same level, I can bang that stuff out anytime.

Depends on the vibe.
If it’s low key and groovy I’d probably play and sing Sweet Melissa.
Upbeat...ain’t no telling.

Nothing gets me to completely forget everything I know like being asked to play something.
^This^
Then, “My Funny Valentine” singing it directly to my precious wife....

In my head, through the miracle of self-delusion, it would sound like this:

Outside my head, back at the party, it would sound like this:

I would just go with something people like right away like Fire by Bruce Springsteen or Take it Easy

* just my experience at our baby-boomer-age skewed gigs ( older folks playing old music for other older folks, Ha!)

Or " Three Little Birds"
