Montrose plus some guy named Sammy Hagar. Ronnie didn't want Sammy playing guitar. He didn't need to.

Steve Morse Band, saw them in Reno. Superb!!

Roy Buchanan with the drummer from Roseanne Cash's band plus the bass player that had been on tour with Edgar Winter. Was about six months before Roy passed on. Magical!!

I had heard Roy through recordings. Live was a whole different thing. What a talent. Missed for sure.

30's? I wish! I'll be 47 in a couple of months- the same age as Billie Joe Armstrong and perfectly in the sweet spot of Gen X (19 when Nevermind was released). Neither Nirvana nor Green Day are spring chickens anymore (Kurt Cobain would be 52).

    RUSH!

The true KING OF THE NORTH
    ...RUSH!

    Go ahead and bash RUSH
Did you see them in ‘79...
Did ya see them in 81?
I won’t diss other 3 piece bands... have you ever played a stadium as a 3-piece?
I saw RUSH... twice. Are they Gods? No... no human is a God. Were they what we long for... in their time? Well... yes, or as Yes should have been. Alex played clean, complex solo’s. Geddy played lead bass... and sang! Try that!?
<edit> Neil Peart... in context and timeframe... do we need to do this?
I saw it, I saw what you might pit against them (in the day)... please take caution to diss The Kings of the North.

My favorite 3 piece is North Mississippi Allstars

    Other honorables for me:
    Band of Gypsies
    Govt Mule (original lineup)
    Los Lonely Boys
    Primus

BTW No need to pick an online fight by publicly trash bands you don’t care for.

BTW... I saw Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush lay waste to the sonic myth that a 3 piece is thin.
    Another big three piece.
