    You waited 90 minutes?
I would have tracked someone down long before that.
I also have walked out of places long before that.

Dine and dash. I would be afraid to do that, but I have come close.

When I was in college, a large group of us went out to eat; probably 16 to 20 of us. We told them we wanted separate checks up front; while I get this can be irritating for wait staff, it should not have been a huge deal.

After dinner, we asked for the check. And waited. And waited. Someone tracked down the waitress and asked what the hold up was. They told us they were trying to get the checks ready. And waited. And waited. We checked again - they were trying to get them ready still. And we waited a bunch more. It took almost two hours for them to get us our checks.

Looking back, we should have left. However, that was the mid 80s, and there is a good chance they would have called the police, as was the custom then.

I mean, what do you do? Stiff the wait staff on 20 meals (don't they have to pay for dine and dash customers?)? Leave what we thought was the amount we owed for our meals? (Tough if you don't have cash / correct change.) We just felt held hostage by their inefficient system.

That chain is now out of business.

Is no one but me wondering what BBQ in the Netherlands tastes like?
I mean....heck....almost all of it outside of Texas in the U.S. stinks. :)

As a Texan you are forbidden to say otherwise;)

Apparently there’s great bbq in South Korea

A bunch of expats make it

I don’t know about the Netherlands though

As far as the op I’m quite understanding/passive so I probably would have waited too

I’m the exact opposite of most Americans as far as temper and patience

I think he said they didn't. It would have taken another hour and a half anyways.

I know a restaurant that regularly takes an hour, one time it took an hour an half. The food is warm, but it's not any good. Fake Mexican food. My mom and relatives love it though.

To me it’s no problem if you know it’s a restaurant that takes time

It’s only unacceptable in a place that should be fairly quick

Although Mexican style food should be quick

You are right about some Asian BBQ.....somehow they can get it right. (although what they use for meat is sometimes "suspect")

I never wait anymore. As soon as things seem slow I call the server over to check. Sometimes seems like an Ahole move but I’ve been lost in the mix and that’s worse.

We all make mistakes. When I make a mistake at work, there's a series of checks that usually catch the mistake. If that fails, at least no one goes hungry.

With this in mind, I would politely ask someone if our food was coming up soon after waiting about 20 minutes. Longer than that, its a pretty safe bet that something went wrong.

Frijoles refritos take a long time. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone in that restaurant is aware of their existence. They do an ok cactus salad though. That's about it.

Wow, why didn't you ask for it after half an hour?

20-30 minutes into that wait time I would have asked the waitress to check the order.

If the order had already been paid for, a full refund should have been demanded.

30 minutes in and I would've inquired as to the delay. You've got the patience of a saint.

I had service so bad once that I left a nickel for a tip, only because I didn't have a penny. I'm paying and he brings the nickel back and sets it on the counter. I looked at him and said, "You SHOULD give it back because you weren't worth a F---ing nickel." He just kept walking.

Surely I'm not the only one that read this and thought "power or output transformers?"?
