Saw one on my local CL and I am kinda curious about it. Anyone ever owned one? Here is the ad: (link removed)

I love 'em. Been wanting one for a while. And that Pearl Green is sweet.

I just traded its big brother, the SGV800. These are very well made, well thought out instruments. The coolest trem, unusual feel and sound. I'm missing the SGV, might have to look for another.

This looks like a great deal. You'll probably want to do a setup, and change the stock nut to graphtec, makes the trem so much better.

I had one in black that i used for about 6 months. Bought it for ~200 when my Tele needed repair.

Never fully bonded with it. It had a flat sound, with a very low output humbucker. That being said, I sold mine for $600 so it was a good investment.

I had a CAR SGV300 for a few months. The pickup selections were unique and I thought the body looked cool. Unfortunately for me, the neck has a narrow & shallow profile; the Bermuda Triangle. The pickups at the bridge are actually two single coil units that can blended together and that was cool too. Finally, the vibrato has a unique design that allows easy bends up and down. It was a great guitar, but the neck was a killer and I sold it.

"Angled Headstock
Yamaha was the first company to introduce the "samurai" style headstock in 1996 "

I used to own one for a while but the neck was just too small for my hands. They are pretty fun though.

Hmmm zombie thread.

that may be true but it was well before 1996, they had some models with that headstock in the `60s...maybe they reintroduced it in `96. Those old ones can fetch quite a bit now in Japan.

I just bought one of these in a pawn shop for $175 and after a good cleaning and restringing, it sounds pretty dang good. It was so odd that I couldn't resist.

Just picked one up the other day in Pearl Green (aka the dark green one in the photos above) - a real beauty. The trem system is fantastic. It came with a weird original fitted gigbag, shaped to fit that 'samurai' headstock. Excellent.
