Hey y'all. I was looking for a good affordable P90 guitar with good fretboard access so I could play regular and slide.

Instead of the almighty SG I was considering the Yamaha Revstar with P90s.

I found one for a good price but it has a crack. I'm curious if you all think it's just a crack in the finish or if the instrument is damaged.

    Thanks!

    When in doubt, do without.

I own a Revstar. Lovely guitar. I don't like how that crack runs directly to the nut. Stress point. Probably wouldn't take much to push it over the edge.

Got mine new on Reverb in '17 for $525.

Is stay away from that unless it was really really cheap.

IDK if I would risk it when you can find mint Revstars for pretty decent prices.

That said, I have the black P90/Bigsby Revstar and it has become my favorite guitar.

Yeah, cheap enough that it's disposable. Headstock repairs ain't cheap.

I’ve got my eye on the green P90 version with the aluminum tailpiece.

I wouldn’t get one with any kind of crack though.

Me too, they’re showing some leg for sure. Hope they play as nice as they look.

That’s like buying a car with a blown head gasket. Could be a great deal if you can do the repair yourself, otherwise nope.

I'll put the saying in the public domain for you. ;) I wish I had purchased the P90 model. The guitar is great but my model has somewhat grungy sounding pups. I can see how that would appeal to some, but not me. I'd love to swap them out but the virus forced me into early retirement. So I'll wait until I hear "Dad/grandpa, what do you want for your birthday/Christmas." :)

From what I've heard I prefer the filtertron and P90 variations but the P90s came out on top. Who knows you might get that gift sooner than you think;)

Its nothing like a head gasket
Nothing on that guitar was meant to be taken apart in that area
A cylinder head is meant to be removeable
