XTC sadly stopped playing live when Andy Partridge developed un-conquerable stage fright.

    Great band.

    Nice Ibanez, Andy!

I can't recall where I read the interview, but Partridge said that he'd been on anti-anxiety meds since his teens, and his girlfriend at the time decided he didn't need them and disposed of his whole supply. His major meltdown ensued.

Sadly, he never got it back together to perform again, and the rest of the band just fell away over time.

One of my favorite bands. It’s interesting in that they also had their “studio years,” not unlike The Beatles, after they stopped touring. All of them (Partridge, Moulding, Gregory) are immensely talented. Over time, I’ve gravitated to Colin Moulding’s songs more, although Andy Partridge could write just the most beautiful songs.

Colin’s recent songs are great (The Hardest Battle, Scatter Me) which was an amazing surprise over the last few years, especially since he was supposedly done with the business, according to Andy. This one’s from just a couple of months ago:

Andy just put out an EP, as well, but it didn’t grab me in the way his classic XTC songs have.

And Dave Gregory’s appearance on That Pedal Show a few years ago is not to be missed for guitar nerds like us:

At the height of their fame they were working day jobs (lorry drivers, I think)...amazing writers and players...I could do a doctoral thesis on the cluster of genius garage/organ/piano and guitar pop bands from about 78'-81'; XTC was possibly the biggest fish in a very deep pool (Elvis Costello, Squeeze, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Rockpile, The Kings, Split Enz and so on)

    +1

Although, "Limelight" and "Blame the Weather" are my personal favorites.

Very excited to hear Moulding is working again - I thought he'd retired, and I stopped checking on him.

What a band. Criminally underappreciated. My two faves:

You should check out TC&I - Colin and Terry (hence the name, very clever) put out an EP and played some gigs at the Swindon arts center a couple of years ago. Terry’s now continuing with that band as “EXTC”.

Most def! What a writer (and player), hard to believe those songs were birthed in '79 and '80.

Sweet! He's playing an Ibanez Artist, one of my favorite guitars of all time!
