I've had several Xotic products in the past and have found every single one of them to be one of the very best, so after trying many compressors when the need arose, I went for an Xotic SP compressor without hesitation.

I have to say that for a long time I stayed away from compressors because I didn't like the way they...compressed(!) the sound, but after burning some serious rubber on an old Boss CS-2 (i.e. finally learning how to use one properly!) I felt that I could definitely do with one!

Also, I don't really use a lot of effects, I have a "big pedalboard" (6 pedals) for big gigs and a smaller one (4 pedals) for... smaller gigs, but more and more for the vast majority of jobs I've been asked to do, I've found myself bringing just a couple of pedals: after all, a studio's outboard gear can do most things, and so can live sound engineers at gigs!

Few days ago I took delivery of an Xotic SP and I have to say that it exceeded my expectations: below there are some pictures showing some of the gear I used to test drive it, and what I found is that at almost any setting you can still tell what guitar is being used, even going from Tele to Tele, Les Paul to Les Paul, and a Strat (not pictured).

The floor noise is there but way less than some of the competition (I rather not mention any names here as they're all companies at the top of their game, and deservedly so) and the Blend control is pure genius, set the Volume at unity gain or, as in my case, a little over 12 o'clock so it'll give a little boost, which to us guitar players is always welcome(!) and find the right balance between dry & wet signal: few seconds and I got the sound I wanted!
I generally set the amp for light crunch, a basic gutsy 70s-type Rock sound but nothing too distorted, then use a pedal to push it over the edge and the SP does that brilliantly, allowing me to go from clean to "Keef" all the way to searing modern leads just by varying the attack and by turning the Volume on the guitar up or down, and "The Tone Remains The Same", always delicious. Perfect!

I've also tried it with an EP Booster, placed before or after the SP, and the results were spectacular, hence I really think that from now on in my bag I might just put the SP, or my trusty Ibanez TS808DX (a wonderful "two pedals in one" unit!) or the SP/EP combo!

I have mine set up about the same as your picture except I crank the volume up more. Love my SP!
@Pajama, I've tried as many settings as I could, probably I tried them all(!), very meticulously, and yes I also did crank the Volume up more with the switchin the Low position but then I settled for High, which slightly increases overall volume and noise, so I turned the Volume down a bit and that, strictly for my needs anyway, I found to be the perfect setting.

Anyone using their SP with their acoustic? Or any suggestions for dialing it in on my acoustic? It's great with my Tele, but I haven't found a sweet spot for leveling out the acoustic

I've always said that I just don't see myself with a compressor. A clean BF Fender, SD-1 & RAT combo give me just the right amount of compression I need.

BUT - the only one I've ever eyeballed was the SP. This would be the one.

The SP with it’s blend knob was where I finally understood a compressor past the cliche’d aggressive attack in funk and clean chorus/delayed sound of the 80’s… which I do like sometimes

I discovered how useful it could be to balance the volume and sustain of my gretsch with my thinline, which has more of both. I will some times use it sparingly as a solo boost as well. It’s a great pedal

Similar set up to you in that I have an EP boost at the front, with the SP comp after. I like Xotic pedals; my first was their SL drive, but now I have the Super Clean as well as the SP and EP I already mentioned.

Same here,
I like a very dynamic sound, where I have total control on everything with my hands and Volume & Tone knobs on the guitar, and I never, really never liked how compressors kind of....."compressed"(?) the sound, however as I said in my post a Boss CS-2 gave me very satisfying results in that regard, it basically gave me the opportunity to learn how to properly use a compressor, hence now on a small pedalboard I have an MXR Dyna Comp early in the chain, another industry standard & simple to operate compressor, and it works great.

Distortion will indeed add compression, like diming the Gain on an amp or, as in your case, having 1 or 2 distortion pedals in the chain (incidentally I also have an old Keeley/Boss SD-1 and a ProCo Rat in my arsenal) but it's not the same as having a top quality compressor.

Give it a try and, more important, give yourself time to learn how to use it; trust me, you'll get the proverbial "tone for days"!

Heard about them.
I have a little ego..tried with acoustics and never plopped on electric board yet.
