I haven’t personally. So please take this with a grain of salt. Maybe Someone else here can speak first hand. But I’ve heard from several people they often require more work than it’s worth (the savings) I recently bought a body on eBay for 150 and very pleased. Didn’t need any extra work

This partscaster was built using a regular GFS body closeout/return/second (different from the XGP). It worked OK although there was some cosmetic damage to the body. While my experience with them was good, others haven't been as lucky. Overall, I'd look around for deals on similar bodies elsewhere before paying a premium for GFS.

Thanks for the info.

I'm willing to chance it and spend $90 for one of the US XGP Bodies.

All of these are GFS bodies. Don't buy the non XGP ones, they suck and require too much work to make right unless you get lucky. In the pic with the 3 hanging guitars, the white strat is not GFS, the other two are the cheaper GFS bodies. They're super light and cheap, the routing is bad, nothing lines up. I made them work but to me they're worthless. I'll give them away to some kids probably when the opportunity arrives.
The other pics are XGP bodies. You basically get what you pay for with these. If you look closely you will find some imperfections but on the whole, they're a pretty good value for the price. Do not expect perfection. The two HH tele bodies are pretty heavy. The bound esquire body is about average tele weight as is the strat.

I used a finished XGP Tele-style body about three or four years ago. Remember guys, the XGP line is a premium over the standard GFS bodies. The one I had fit a Fender neck perfectly, as well as all hardware. The finish was virtually flawless. I later used a "standard" GFS Paulownia body for my current #1 mongrelcaster. It too, fit perfectly a Warmoth "Fender-spec" neck, and Wilkinson Tele-style bridge. This body was unfinished, so I can't address that. My only objection to GFS is, in today's environment of free or cheap shipping, they are a little expensive to ship.

You might get a good one, a decent one or a horrible one - luck of the draw.

When you get it, check all the cavities to make sure they line up, all the holes are in their right place. Good luck.

I assembled a pretty nice telecaster using a GFS XGP body. I used a Mexican Fender neck - I sold it to a co-worker who loves it. '50s style wiring and GFS pickups. Sounds and plays great.

Agreed on shipping. That's why I don't order anything from them anymore. Granted, I'm in Oregon, them - Florida, but it's still outrageous.

My P90 ess-kwire build is an XGP body. The one I got was okay, but the neck pocket size & string-thru hole locations are hit & miss. I am doing a Strat with one of their ash bodies, and it seems to be going without a hitch...so far.

I have used a half dozen or so. I have had better luck than not with them. However, it can be a crap shoot. I had ordered a butterscotch blond ash body that was so heavy, I just couldn't use it and I sent it back. Their double bound tele bodies are pretty good from my experience. I have a an old Esquire neck that has a broken truss rod that I use to check their routing specs. If that neck fits in nice and snug, I will keep it. If not it goes back. I have to say that they are one of the better 'cheap parts" company.

I am not using them anymore as I am no longer building any more cheap guitars. Everything I buy from here on out are top of the line now. If you are just starting out in building, they might be ok to check them out for that. However, I cannot recommend them anymore because their quality is not dependable enough for me. If you get a good one, you will be happy. If not, you will be bummed, simple as that.

I used an unfinished double bound of theirs to make my own Nashville tele. The short story is be prepared to do some corrective woodworking.

1) the neck pocket was too shallow & required tweaking
2) the string thru holes & bridge cavity are placed slightly beyond spec, lengthening the scale. If you use a 4 screw mount + 3 saddle vintage bridge, the longer travel of the barrels compensates for this. I had to tweak this to fit a 4 screw + 6 saddle bridge.

More details here:

Nice looking project, but having holes out of place sounds lame in this day and time.

I just got this xgp body in the mail today and it looks like it’s going to workout great. My WD neck fits great and the string through holes are all straight. I opted for the unfinished one because all the painted bodies were out of stock.

If the neck pocket specs are in order, then that's half the battle. With GF, it's always a crap shoot. I have had some that worked out great and others I had to send back and to have to send back a $90.00 body that has been finished, that has to be bad.

I will say this, I am currently building a project using Warmoth components. I wanted a nice swamp ash body so that justifies the expense. However, after tallying up my expenses for the paint supplies alone, it's over the $90 for a GFS XGP finished body. So if you can find one you can live with, I say it's a good move.

I had a warmoth tele neck that I played for a few years. I sold it for a decent amount more than I payed for it ‍♂️ A total warmoth build would defiantly be top notch
