If the question is "if you could go back in time and prevent Bono from happening, would you?"
Then probably yes.
Edit: watched the video. I'm not a big U2 fan but I sure don't hate what I just saw. Not very polished, but the guitar solo sounds like something I would play! Pretty cool video thanks for sharing.
Well, the Edge certainly found himself a more unique voice on the guitar before the first album came out.
I would have signed them to clean the leaves out my gutters, that's about all.
I would have told them to keep practicing.
No. Especially not now.
On this performance maybe not, but as we know someone had the skills to mould them back then, and Edge still needed his sound tweaked with his delay and reverb units
Good on some young kids giving it a go... at least they were not playing covers and when the vox came in there, they were going for something different.
Maybe not signing ready... but ripe for encouragement.
The Beatles were just a group of teenage wankers when they started out ...
Producers make all the difference. Look for early.performances of Heart of Glass by Blondie for an example of this.
In 1978? That was pretty standard college radio post-punk new wavish stuff. Blondie, B52s, Devo, Giant Sandworms all sounded like that and had the same awkward pretentious stagecraft. So, in '78 I'd have signed them.
No - hit the road Jack .
