I see nothing wrong about Phil. Just a dude sharing what he loves and has an obvious fanbase of people who are looking for info. What's the harm in sharing what he knows? Especially if he's wrong, the comments section can fact check him. For someone buying guitars, channels like his (and Darell Braun, etc.) are good because they aren't tied to a Fender relationship like a store would be. How many of you have ever heard someone at a big box (or small store) give bad advice (especially before the internet). None of these guys (and girls) should be a sole source of info, but are useful for someone trying to get as much info as possible while checking a variety of resources.

I choose Phil because his quirks make him interesting and I'd truly just think I'd enjoy getting a pizza with him and talking about fenders. We all have our opinions and experiences, so I'll choose the dude that seems like he'd be open to a good conversation. Phil reminds me that we learn the most when we empty our heads and just listen start close to the beginning, before our heads and hands convinced us the guitar was something other than a blank canvas.

That said, I like the captain for his personality and that I can count on always seeing the latest. I'm not into chappers music style, but he looks like he'd be the most epic best friend a guy could have.

Andy for pedals every day.

RJ Ranquillo would be my pick over either in the poll because I feel like I could learn a lot from him about playing, not that he has time for me. But I'd ask if he'd invite Phil for pizza because why not.

I just don't know enough about the tone king, but I tend to stay away from anyone who revels in high gain, if that's what he's about. I've seen a few vids and he seems like a good dude. I think I might not be his target market, but lots of people are and that's awesome. Maybe he likes pepperoni and pineapple on pizza, too? If so, maybe he'd like to get a slice or two with us, too.

Gearmanndude lives in Louisville and the Luther Drive is a remarkable pedal. When you buy a Luther Drive his name and address is on the return address label. If you’re really interested then just buy the pedal. Best Overdrive ever.

Back to the topic.

Phil! I enjoy Phil’s enthusiasm and knowledge.

I used to play a Tone King game that I called “will the Tone King actually play his guitar in the first half of the video?” If a Tone King video is 8 minutes long there is a high probability that he’ll still be talking at the 4:15 mark. I really don’t need a 5 minute description of a $179 Bugera amp that has 3 knobs. Just play something!

Now you can all try the Tone King game.

:)

Who wants to know?
"I also like how Tone King has kind of given himself that name and I hope he never reveals his true identity because being known as Tone King fits him perfectly."

Hate to burst your bubble OP but his real name is Tony King. At least that's what he said recently (coulda been a joke, who knows?)

John Bohlinger.

I'd love for John Bohlinger to do a Rig Rundown (TM) on me.

I'd have 25 guitars, 17 amps, 16 cabs with different speaker combinations, and several hundred pedals, and we'd talk for hours about how it's all wired together, and every single pedal setting, and every guitar pot value, and every custom string combination,...

...and then I'd demonstrated every single glorious sound combination by playing Smoke On The Water, the only song I know, and I'd play it wrong and make lots of mistakes.

Of course, I'd exclusively be playing silent into a Two Notes Torpedo or some such because I'd live in a tiny, tiny apartment full of gear and a massive and expensive show-off computer recording setup, but I would never have actually recorded anything.

...

But to not answer your question...

The Tone King really grinds my gears. In fact, I feel like he is the exactly type of guy who'd have a YouTube show called "What Really Grinds My Gears".

Phil seems harmless enough, but he seems kind of like a Sesame Street Muppet that is kind of nice on the surface, but you know at some point he's gonna lose it, and it won't be pretty.

Don't even get me started on Mick and Dan...

I haven’t seen MIKE HERMANS name yet here. Back when I spent more time combing NOOBTOOB for completely irrelevant amp and pedal demos than I did practicing (After all, how much can u really learn about how a pedal sounds listening through computer speakers or on your phone?), I proudly and audaciously made a thread on THE GEAR PAGE that proclaimed this “The Best Pedal Demo Ever”.

I was roundly castigated. Some dude actually attempted to crucify me by calling Mike a “pentatonic wanker” or “blues noodler” or something like that. Of course I had none of it. And the thread quickly reached 4 or 5 pages mostly in support of my assertion. I was actually being serious. This was the best demo I had ever seen. Primarily because the pedal is so cool.

OK, this seems to have gone off the rails because it really wasn't about all the other YouTube reviewers. I honestly think my head almost explodes every time I read that Andy guy is actually a decent player TBH. This was about running into Phil McKnight or Tone King at GC.

But if anyone wants to check out the grand daddy of all guitar shows it would be this bad boy right here, Larry "Hot Licks" Conklin who did a public access show for years.
