Would you pay $12k for a guitar you couldn't look at?

This from Craigslist. I find these ads funny that say "Factory sealed in original box". For one thing, it's not really a selling point to me to be even newer than new. (I saw one person selling an "unopened!" guitar, and all the photos were seriously of just a shipping box.)

But for another, obviously as soon as you open the box to look at the guitar it's no longer factory sealed and can't be sold that way, so presumably you have to buy it sight unseen. Would you pay $12,5 for a guitar you weren't allowed to play or even look at before buying?

The Andy Summers does look like a sweet guitar though.

Also, like a car, when you turn it on, 1/3 of the value evaporates. Now to be fair, this might make its value back quickly, but I’d rather have something I can play. YMMV

No way, but I suspect a lot of people do buy guitars they can’t play

No, I have bought vintage player guitars sight unseen but only from sellers I felt comfortable with and not for nearly that much.

It reminds me of the Spinal Tap scene where Nigel Tufnel shows off his guitars -- "That one has never been played. In fact, don't even look at it."
Most of my guitars I have in somewhat of a rotation except one. an explorer I bought new built in Jan 1980. I never bonded with it and it has stayed in its case 99.999% of its life. I would have sold it in the eighties but prices on explorers never really went up so I just kept it. All these years later I figure that my daughter can sell it after I am gone, but no that guitar doesn't ever see the light of day . The last time it was even played was in 1982

Opening the factory sealed packaging is worth about a thousand bucks, apparently

Also, does anyone ever just sell a guitar online without some stupid comment like this:

I regularly eBay listings that say stuff like “in 100% original condition except refinish and pickups“. It’s certainly the optimist‘s way of saying “not in original condition”. :D
