would the greenbacks or G12h-30's be a better choice for a voxac30?

I really like the G12H 30 Heritage model, but not a fan of the Anniversary version (I have both right now). No idea why they put that model in some really top-notch amps, just not for me.

The G12H30 Annie's are actually a great speaker but they need some break-in time and conditioning. Throw them up on a signal generator or variac for a couple days, chemical treat the surrounds. I would bet that those 'top-notch' amp manufactures do this before they ship. ;)

i think im gonna like the greenbacks better becuase i play at lower volumes.

I love greenback, don't get me wrong, and they will do clean well to my ears. If I ever get a DR, I will stick a greenback or one of these G12H30s. How is the price difference between the two ??

i think it's like $20 difference. im re considering the greenbacks idk yet. i like the idea of high end detail the the g12h gives but i also like the midrange punch of the green. maybe i'll 2 of them.

This might be like swearing in the church but a speaker to consider might be some of the jensen RI alnico offerings. I recently got an AC-15 derivative which has one of them and it sounds absolutely great! Also it is pretty low sensitivity so it might help tame the output level of the AC-30...

Only when played clean, they bark brit mids when you push them. So they need to be loud to sound 'proper, brit barky' IMO.

The Heritage G12H-30 doesn't bark like the Classic/Anniversary G12H-30, nor does it require breaking in. If you want to know what the Heritage G12H-30 sounds like, just listen to Jimi play through a Marshall 4x12 stack.

Likewise the Classic G12M-25 Greenback is more woofy than the Heritage G12M-20 Greenback which is more like the Rola-Celestion G12S-20 'Greenback' (painted blue of course) which was original fitment to the AC30 towards the end of its 60s production.

So if you want authentic AC30 sound, it should be a pair of the stiffer old school Greenbacks, or one of the flubby new ones (they're actually quite good) plus something a bit stiffer like the G12H-30.

I am currently looking into trying out some different speakers in my mid 60's Gretsch 6159 amp. It has the stock Jensen C12PS 12"s in it. I have tried one out in my Deluxe Reverb and it sounded pretty weak and thin. Supposedly the 6159 amp is 35 watts and I am thinking some new speakers would make a big difference. I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. The Jensen's have ceramic magnets and I am thinking of going with an Alnico.
