Would a cab sim pedal make the original flyrig work with headphones?

I have the first version of the FlyRig 5 by tech 21, it doesn’t have enough output to drive headphones on its own. Would the Audiofile by EHX or some sort of a cab sim pedal bring it up to a decent headphone practice amp?

A cab sim pedal won't, unless it contains a headphone amp like the EHX does.

The Strymon Iridium has a miniplug output jack, and recreates the Vox AC-30, Fender Twin, and Marshall Plexi, each with a choice of three speaker cabs (and more cabs that can be input by the user) via a mini-USB plug. I think the amps sound great; that might worth checking out as a headphone practice amp.

The Rock Bug is a good option if all you want is a headphone capability for the Fly Rig. It also has an Aux In if you want to practice with or jam with pre-recorded tracks.

The Audiofile headphone amp I see is made by Mooer, not EHX 61sgZRcXveL._AC_SL1000_.jpg

The Mooer looks very cool, although somewhat redundant, since most multi-effects units have built in cab sims and headphone amps.

I've got Mooer Audiofile in my pedal board. Yes it works. Although there are no tone controls and it's a bit darker side, but if you have Flyrig.. there are the tone controls already.

Cab sim can be switched on/off (can be used as a booster too in the chain). With my pedals and headphones it needs to be on, otherwise sound is crackling and brittle (when od/fuzz pedals are on). But i've got no other sims (amp or cab) in my board.

I like it, but would be good to test somewhere if fits for you.

E: Electro-Harmonix do have their own headphone amp too, called Headphone Amp ;). I have no experiences with them.

I got the Hotone Binary IR pedal for a reasonable price 2nd hand. If you want lots of options to play with it has a selection of cabs, optional power valve emulation and knobs to adjust the simulated mic placement. I can get some good sounds out of it, though I haven't tried the others so I can't say how it compares.

A Two Notes Torpedo C.A.B. M might do what you want.

This is what I use. It works well with my Sansamp GT2 as well as other similar units.

My headphone "hotel room" rig I put together for travel back in January before all business travel got canceled for the year. I was going to be at our factory one week a month this year but...
