isn't the World Series going to be won regardless of the call?
No, there wasn't. And according to the rules, there doesn't have to be.
Hats off for commenting as a true fan of the game itself. Rules are rules. They are the same for both teams.
Definitely the proper call.
An obstruction call allows the play to progress as it is the umpires judgment to whether or not the player would have reached the next base without the obstruction. The play was close enough at home for the home plate umpire to decide that without the obstruction Craig would have made it home safely. If Craig was thrown out by 30 feet - he may not have been called safe even with the initial obstruction call at 3b.
we are gonna get a game 6 which means Boston is back in this thing! it is a good series.. I think Breslow needs a night off.
Dramatic endings are the new thing in baseball.
What a strange series this is shaping up to be.
yep ! what a sniper pickoff
Wow. What a game.
that game had everything....
I love this post.
It's a series again!
A very entertaining series, but some bad mental gaffes and sloppy play. Not what you'd expect from the two best teams in baseball.
Ahhh...see now we're on to something.
The World Series is a contest between the the two teams that were most "on" in the LCS. The fact that these two teams had the best regular season records in baseball ?
You know how they call the big leagues "the Show" ?
That ain't "the Show" - the post-season is "the Show".
Both teams seemed a little rattled. Wonder if the slop continues (I bet not).
If Boston losing makes it easier for the Tigers to get Ellsbury - great. Go Cards !
Otherwise - go nobody !
So now that it's knotted up, tonight's game in St Louis, and returning to Boston for game 6 and possibly 7... does anyone have revised predictions?
I had predicted Boston 4-2, as much as I'd love to see the Cards win. I will stick with that (and keep my fingers crossed that the Cards win the next two lol).
Tied, I'm enjoying this pairing!
I predict Wong doesn't get picked off again in the Series. And that Wainwright is due for a stopper game.
As I recall, prior to the pickoff the TV announcers were yapping about how silly it was to be holding that runner on first...
Who's sorry now Mr. Tim?
Cards have to win 2 out of 3 against Sox...........don't see it happening.
Yes, McCarver was excruciating last night. He also went off on Gomes for a few minutes for not taking 3rd on Drew's sac fly to left. Gomes was playing it cautious for good reason. Being a left fielder he knew Holliday did not have a good chance of gunning down Ortiz due to the line of the throw. Also Freese was perfectly positioned to cut it off and Descalso was already covering third. Pretty smart play for Gomes to stay close to second, IMO.
