For no reason I internet-searched "Nobby Stiles" - apparently the nickname's from his 1st name, Norbert.

And a common nickname for a Neville is "Noddy"
(Noddy Holder from Slade's real first name is Neville.)

My mum was friends with Nobby's mum!
It's a St Pat's, Collyhurst thing......big football school.

(Taught by nuns btw, along with Brian Kidd. Nice one Sister Veronica).

Nobby's family were Funeral Directors. Quite appropriate considering his style of tackling.

Disappointing US result, they had plenty of the ball and won possession back quickly. They just don't have any predators.
I also thought when they played 3 at the back with CCV at right centre back (I'm biased though) that they linked up better with their midfield.
It could have also helped against a flawless Dutch counterattack.
20 odd passes before their first goal was exquisite play.

No doubt this young US team will be a lot better in 4 years' time.

Now looking forward to seeing how well the "Socceroos" fare against the Argies.

Decent defending and we'd be watching extra time now.
Shame, it would have been great to see the Dutch sent packing.
I reckon you lot have the makings of a very decent team in 4 years.

I agree. They need scoring up front. But they’re a big step up from a riot teams.

Congrats to Argentina, too good on the night... 2-1...

at least we got a goal and nearly equalised in extra time....the step up in class was a bit too much to counter....

A good experience for our players to play the best in a World Cup.....
