So for I have the chassis, from Ceriatone. And transformers from an old Hammond AO-35 (mounted). I ordered some tube sockets and terminal strips today from Angela Instruments. Next month I'll get the rest of the parts and some pics. Once done the plan is to sell my S2 Lightning and have a oak and cane head shell built to match my speaker cabinet...

I had a chance to buy Spitfire transformers made by the original custom winder on ebay, and have seen Spitfire clones for sale as well as I think info on building a Spitfire from another amp possibly from the Hammond family.
Never saw an actual Spitfire to try though and have only played a couple of original Matchless'.
Sounds like a cool build, pics?

I never tried the TDS iron.

I've built a bunch of them (all sold, it's a great design). The circuit works well with lots of transformers. I did several using the Matchless style of construction, but I'll be doing this one more like a Top Hat.

No pics yet but, Ill dust the camera off after I get the caps and resistors wired up.

Do it if you have those transformers, it will be worth the effort and one of the best Tele amps in your stable...

I will be doing this build without a choke like Goodsell did with the S17.

FWIW, a DR replacement OT works great with 2 X EL84 power tubes.

Preference for Spitfire over the Lightning? Curious what you're after there.

I have a couple Dynaco ST-35 OT's that I've been saving for one of these builds. Someday.....

Glorious clean tone... Fewer knobs to fiddle with...
