Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

If you think nobody cares if you’re alive, try missing a couple of bank payments.

I was practicing this when I was replacing the toilet bowl handle except the threads are reversed. Luckily I figured it out before I broke the porcelain.

Isn't the actual saying "a leopard can't change its spots"?

You are correct. My client had been acquitted of arson, having been accused of intentionally burning his neighbor’s barn. His neighbor pursued him in a civil lawsuit a few years later, where the standard of proof is “more likely than not” rather than “beyond a reasonable doubt.” The jury found for the neighbor. These events occurred more than 30 years ago.

I complained I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet.

Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about, so be kind always.

I'm working to keep alive my dad's lifelong tradition of seizing good funny opportunities to say, "That reminds me of a blind date I had once." (Edit: here's an example from an old thread.) You have to be quick, 'cause it's only there for a second. While I was teaching, I was able to destroy a staff meeting with that line a couple times a year.

I also got good use out of "Never kick a skunk" as a classroom motto.

Good one, for sure. I'm not religious but I've always liked : "but for the grace of God go I" when I see someone with a severe illness or physical handicap. I said this to my now adult children when they were kids, adding "next time you think you got it tough, remember this guy and thank your lucky stars".

I'm damn grateful that I've made it almost to 70 without any serious health problems.

The first real love of my life, a great lady who I was too young and naïve to latch on to told me these words of wisdom that I repeat to myself everyday:
This above all else: to thine own self be true

Life sucks sometimes, and sometimes it sucks a lot. Being miserable never made it suck less.

Pretty much the last words my best friend said to me in the hospice before he died - "Life has its ways".

My mum's " Always treat others the way you'd like to be treated". Sadly I have failed this week on that.
