I found this quote by a famous Bauhaus trained artist named Herbert Bayer while doing some research on him yesterday and I was struck by how well it applies to lots of topics that are discussed here so I thought I would share it (unfortunately it's too long to use as my signature). I also threw in a quote about anger that I may have to use as a wallpaper on my work computer.

If anyone here has any profound words to live by I'm interested to hear them.

"...It should be remembered that the total personality is involved in the creative process. It is not performed by the skilled hand, not conducted by the intellect alone, but by a unified process in which 'head, heart, and hand' play a simultaneous role..." Herbert Bayer, 1984

"It is wise to direct your anger towards problems -- not people; to focus your energies on answers -- not excuses." William Arthur Ward

    Very cool.

As a sociologist, I've got to add that none of those things exists in a vaccum. Our surroundings and culture contribute to who we are. Even Mozart had his influences. Next time you achieve success, try making a list of everything that contributed to it. It's not as easy as you might think.

The Simpsons are a treasure trove of great quotes one of one of my favorites is this one. From the Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp episode.

"A guitar has many many nicknames, an ax, a git box... well I guess those are the only ones." - Brian Setzer.

BTW I love the funny quotes but I would also like to see a few more serious ones too. Here's another funny one though...

You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

    You have two choices:

Keep pluggin', or flop down, curl up, stick your thumb in your mouth and let the leaves cover you up.
