I was referring to the context of "I can't perform that task because (insert lame bs excuse here), so not only am I not going to attempt it, but it's so far into my head that I can't that I even refuse to learn how", rather than a permissive sense.

    "I can't..." is a loser's lame excuse.

"Brah" used to annoy me. But its use seems to have waned, at least around me.

    But whatever you do.....

This one gets me. I hear it all the time now, especially on TV news.

My wife says this too; ung-yins.

Put that alongside "Eviscerated" when describing how somebody had a snappy comeback for some important person's public statement. "Joe Schmoe eviscerated VIP Biggs McHuge's argument for a nationwide ban on fnords in grassy spaces."
... it just sounds messy and mean-spirited. I'm waiting for "defenestrate" to become a buzzword, that's gonna be fun...

I asked my mate if I could borrow his wheels to go to the tip. His instant reply was ‘no you bloody can’t’. Never seen it slept like that before...............

And carnage is over the top for a bloke who’s dropped a bag of do-nuts or a minor collision. Over-the-top adjectives annoy me as well.

I like this thread. Driving people around as an Uber driver in Toronto I hear it all.

Most of what makes me cringe has been mentioned. But I have to smile and be polite.

Width. Depth. Height. There is no "heighth".

Acrosst is not a word. "A crossed" is the start of a phrase, as in "A crossed set of swords". It's just "across".

"Based off of" or "Based off"? Since when? How about "Based upon" or "Based on"?

I am tired of, and I am bored with.

    Just get off my grass.

Here's a phrase you hear a lot by Sports guys- either color commentators, games), or TV panel guys:

'Now, if he would have went to the left...'

Or he should have been traded, could have went to the Yankees...'

    Past perfect is GONE

I work next to a woman whose reply to ANY statement at all, however mundane, is one of the following:
    No!
    Never!
    Really!
    You didn't?
    Get away!
    You don't say!
    It drives me to despair!!!!

"Fake it 'til you make it" said by someone who feels entitled to be unqualified.

"Work smarter not harder" said by someone who thinks they are the smartest person in every room.

How ‘bout “It is what it is”, depending, of course, what your definition of “is” is.
